Client Patch 1.6.8 was released today which provides significant compatibility improvements for video cards that do not support FrameBuffers. The new client should automatically detect if your card supports frame buffers on launch and use the appropriate code. If we find that the check is not working on all video cards we will provide a manual check box that can be set on the launcher. We encourage any players that previously had video issues to try getting into the game again.
There wll be some subtle differences when the client runs in a frame buffer mode and not… When a video card does not support frame buffers the following differences will be noted:
Lighting: While the lighting system will render close to regular frame buffer mode, without framebuffers when an a large amount of lights overlay one another it will cause an extremely bright light (much brighter than frame buffer mode). Lights may also not appear as vivid.
Minimap: The minimap maintains all its functions however quest markers and npcs may be slightly more jittery during movement than with framebuffers enabled. (Quest text for markers will also not be rotated).
Slower rendering: Rendering will likely be somewhat slower for video cards that cannot support frame buffers.
1.6.8 also provides an additional fix for blood puddles from combat not rendering/refreshing until you move your character
