Day two, first test run.

I got this thing ALMOST stable enough to warrant a webplayer upload. The theme of the contest is “chaos,” so I wanted to create an an ordered environment for the chaos to inhabit. Basically, I gathered together all the useful scripts I could think of and set about assembling the elements that will be needed, enemies, the cannon, and the cubes using physics based collision instead of hit points. Each hit from a cube or the weapon replaces the object rather than depleting it.

The Chaos itself is basically a displaced mesh affected by a fractal texture, and I don’t reccommend shooting at it too much, not until you discover the secret of destroying it. If it “breeds” too much, the sheer volume of polygons might easily crash the browser at this point. Some more testing is needed so I can figure out how to stabilize it.

Next, I have to establish some player health and a means of attaching the weapons. Ideally, that should also be as simple as possible, with each new weapon being put alongside the previous ones.

The appearing and disappearing cubes are static, and I intend to build the game’s puzzles out of them, along with whatever else occurs to me as the week progresses.

The bad guys are just some quick extrusion models I made using some old textures as a sort of guide. Since Imgur seems to be down, I’m just posting the images to the game page as I go. I’ll clean all this up later.

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!
