DESOLATION Alpha 1.3 Release - Changelog

Hello everyone. After being around two weeks in development, I'm happy to release a new version of this game. Alpha 1.2 was around 10 months ago, so I think it's pretty nice that I got back on the project and managed to complete an entire update.

Plenty of new changes are here, so here is the full changelog:

  • Bullets now have a chance to pierce through NPCs and props. Each weapon has a different chance.

  • NPC's now can collide with each other, and can be pushed around.

  • In infinite mode, you now get 10 points for surviving every 10 seconds.

  • Added a new "Shiny Menu" option in the video settings.

  • Added new resolution and fullscreen options to the video settings.

  •  Fixed some sound errors regarding "hurtme" and "hurtarmor" commands in the developer console.

  •  Campaign, Changelog and About buttons now work in the main menu (despite not having menus)

  • Added new developer console functions:

    • summon [name]: Spawns an NPC in front of the player.

    • newitem [name]: Spawns an item in front of the player.

    • newprop [name]: Spawns a prop in front of the player.

    • tp [x] [y]: Teleports the player to the given coordinates.

  • Items now despawn after 4 minutes. (Can be disabled in the json file of the map)

  • Medkit and batteries now have a custom pickup sound. (Just used the Black Mesa SFX for now, but will change it later)

  • Two new achievements added:

    • "For a Reason": obtained when all the other achievements are obtained.

    • "Play All Radios": unused & unobtainable. Meant for the campaign mode of the game.

  • Achievements menu now has a progress text. (might improve it later)

  • Hitting ESC now works as a shortcut to "Return" buttons in some menus.

Alpha 1.5 is out! It's the biggest update by far, introducing the first two maps of the story, alongside a brand new lighting system.

Happy Devruary! Devruary Day 16 celebrates @balladrion ! He's the developer behind Balladrion, a 3D rogue-lite action RPG set in a magical fantasy world. We also have a question for the devs of Game Jolt: What feature almost broke your game?

Decided it'd be nice to have some sort of "wake up protocol" text appear in the beginning, so I quickly set up this in the evening. Thoughts? The text might be weird a little lol

Polarity Engine, the project I've used to develop DESOLATION, is now available at a seperate repository as well as Itch.io and Game Jolt. You can view it through the links in the article.

Lighting really does make all the difference (a daily screenshot from the map I'm working on)
