Hello everyone! It's been a while since the last devlog. A LOT has happened ever since, here's a quick recap for anyone who hasn't been keeping up with the progress:
@helloitscrash finished composing the Original Soundtrack for the game, while @JenPen_ drew a cover for it!
I made some new showcase renders for the characters in DEERWOOD + a bonus render for the endoskeleton!
Russel Deerwood celebrated his 4th birthday!
I've updated the game page with a new thumbnail and banner!
And finally... the game has gone original! Which means it's no longer a FNAF fangame, but rather a FNAF-inspired game. You can read more about it here!
New Horizon
Thank you all for the overwhelmingly positive response on DEERWOOD going original! I genuinely did not expect so many people to be supportive of it.
I'd like to state again: the game is still free and very open about being HEAVILY inspired by FNAF, we're not pretending to be 100% original!
No, we're not redesigning the characters, or the environments, or the gameplay. Development will proceed as originally planned!
I know this is still kind of a far fetched concept in the FNAF fangame community and I know that not everyone will agree with it, but we genuinely believe this is the best path for the game and your support means a lot to us.
Beta Testing
I'm happy to announce that we're now... nearly 2/3rds done with the gameplay loop!
In the latest build, we now have a functioning power meter with some additional threats.
As I've mentioned in the last devlog, the power meter in DEERWOOD functions more like an health bar, only going down as a punishment for not paying attention/not being fast enough.
There are some extra mechanics related to the power meter that will force you to look around your office and interact with your environments, balancing out the camera and office gameplay.
Additionally, we've made a quick menu for beta testers to mess around with values in! (featuring a silly little message from John Deerwood)
It's hard to say when the next and last segment of the gameplay loop will be done, we're definitely going to take a short break after we're done bug fixing.
Cutscenes
The opening cutscene for the game is done!
With visuals by @JenPen_ , music by @helloitscrash and a script by @TheDuggster , @Jayfer and myself.
I'm quite happy with how it turned out, and the reactions so far have been pretty positive!
I won't share the actual cutscene obviously, so here's one of the frames to compensate.
That's all for now! Thank you guys again for the support, it means a lot.
