Welcome to our 2nd Devlog. Today’s topic, your first Evobeast.
You have the choice between two creatures in Evobeasts: Renla and Vespra. Before going into these two little guys, let’s first take a look at Evobeasts in general.
EVOBEASTS
There are twelve elemental typings in the game of Evobeasts. Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Lightning, Plant, Mystic, Undead, Ice, Metal, Shadow, and Plague. Each Evobeast falls into one or a combination of these elements. As with many games with elemental typings, each element has its own set of advantages and disadvantages.
There are also seven stats. Health, intelligence, strength, mysticism, physical defense, mystic defense, and speed. Health and speed are pretty straight forward, strength and mysticism boost damage in physical and mystic skills respectively, and physical defense and mystic defense reduce the respective damage. Intelligence is a little more nuanced. One of the big things it does is help you use more of a given skill, but more on that later.
One last thing about each Evobeast is that they have the ability to evolve. Given the name of the game, I don’t think this is too shocking to anyone. When an Evobeast reaches a certain level, they will have the option to evolve into two different Evobeasts. This is another instance of choices. For some Evobeasts, they will be able to evolve a second time.
RENLA
Renla is Magic type Evobeast that deals primarily physical damage. Renla is the preferred companion of Josh, our programmer. Renla is cute, friendly, and has some sweet looking evolutions. If you choose Renla, you’ll have access to, among others, these Evobeasts.
Leppy and Gupple
VESPRA
Vespra is the favorite our concept artist and story writer, Brandon. It’s also, in many ways, Renla’s polar opposite. It’s Shadow type, deals mostly mystic damage, and isn’t terribly cute. Still, he’s a formidable companion, and has some powerful evolutions. If you choose Vespra, you’ll have access to these great Evobeasts.
Quilly and Tortle
Both are excellent choices. So, please fight over which one you’d choose in the comments.
