Devlog 5/13/26 = Custom engine progress!


Hey everyone! Shadow here. I decided that I wanted to start off with not quite daily updates but much more regular updates about Pikmin: Leaders Unite. So lets just get down into it.

-Custom Engine (Starlight 2D)
over the last couple of days I started getting my API's together for this custom game engine. Im not reinventing the wheel here or anything. But it will take me time to get stuff fully situated. With that being said, I DO have rendering, transitions, and simple data reading all set up! This may be one very small step for Pikmin: Leaders Unite, but after all the issues I've had with Unity, Game Maker, Godot.... Its the right call.

Anything to show off?

Actually yes! As you may notice I have gotten the main menu started once again in the new - code only - engine. I also have started on a loading screen transition as well which I may show off on my youtube channel or my main gamejolt page.

Whats left?
Simular to what I used to do, im going to start adding in a section of "whats left to do?" on these devlogs. With how Starlight2D is being designed, almost all "Engine" work will also be "Game" work.

Player Controller/All game interactions.
Level Streaming
AI for pikmin hoards (this is what broke the unity project 3-4 years ago!)
QoL engine updates (these will be worked on later in development and wont be too much of an issue)
A proper audio manager (right now Starlight2D can handle sound effects and a background track, but I want to add more to this system.)

Overall, game progress is at 1%, engine progress is at 5% tops. BUT! It has only been a couple of days, and yesterday I actually was unable to work at all. So please, be patient with me and waddle. We truely only want the game to come out in its best possible state.

With all that being said, thank you for reading! (And hey, once its more done I may release Starlight2D for other devs to use!)

Working on the HUD (Same test map as from last teaser)

Alright! Update number two on mystery project I'm working on! I was messing around with world machine to make the Open World (Hint!) for the game, 1,000 square ft map has been created! enjoy a preview.
