Hello all and welcome to another devlog Friday!
We missed last week’s devlog as Nathan was away at PAX Australia. However, he is now back and we are back in action working on The Cardinal Crusade!
To start with, last week Nathan did actually get some work done in some down time while he was away. It was mostly a few annoying bug fixes as well as finally getting the moving platforms back up to scratch.
This week we found out the game only supported xbox controllers. So we promptly fixed that in order to support all controllers that GameMaker is able to detect. So far this has been tested to work with xbox and PS4 controllers. An issue we have run into though with the PS4 controller is that the main button input, also known as the “face buttons”, aren’t the same on both controllers. This means that A on the xbox controller does not translate to X on the PS4 controller. This is an obvious problem without a simple and easy work around. We do have an idea on a way to deal with it though which should be implemented within the next month or so. This is not our current priority.
We also ran into a pretty serious background issue in which the edges of some of our background layers were showing strange lines and making things look bad. We managed to get it fixed, although we still aren’t sure of the exact reason as to why it happened in the first place.
We have set a goal to have world one, the swamp, finished by the first of December. So far we are fairly on track. We have been making very smooth progress (excluding last week), squashing bugs and implementing essential features. Currently the biggest thing missing is a few levels and the lack of the games story. These things will likely be going into the game over the next couple weeks so expect more news on that in future dev logs.
To summarize, not a whole lot of interesting progress has been made this week, but progress all the same. We hope to share some more exciting progress in the coming weeks as we move closer to having world one complete. Thanks for reading!
