Hello and welcome to the second monthly devlog! We'll get straight to the point.
Inventory Part 2
I continued working on the inventory and finally finished it! It contains all the features we need:
Drag and Drop
Non Equip able items cannot be put in the equip bar
Clicking on an item shows details about it
Can Discard items which are no longer useful
Toggling the backpack on and off
Saving Inventory Data between levels (not save files yet)
It was a lot of work and pain to do all of this but it works out. There are still things that need to be done regarding the items and their functions, but now we can store all of them with no problem.
Improved AI
TSEG has started working on improving the AIs so that we have tons more control over them. It's still a work in progress but it'll allow us to implement a dynamic difficulty level if needed. Survival Mode Hard Mode is now easily possible and we know you'll love the pain of not winning.
This will also make it easier for us to balance things out a little better.
Dialogues
If you missed it, we are looking for voice actors as Story Mode has a narrative and characters. Thanks to everyone who applied so far, TSEG and I have been very pleasantly surprised by your talents. You still have a few days left to apply.
Now that we got this out of the way, let's quickly talk about how dialogues would behave in-game.
I've tried to think of what could be best the way, whether it'd be a window of text similar to RPGs and Visual Novels, or a simple subtitle system. If we give the player the choice of their reply or not. So far, I've concluded it's best to not make it intrusive and keep it as simple subtitles with no dialogue options for the player to choose from. However this could always slightly change throughout development. The Dialogue system is still very early in development as I'm trying to figure out what's the best way we can implement it.
Survival Mode
I'm not sure if i talked about it before so i'll make it quick here.
Survival Mode will contain more than a single level, however the Game Mode is planned to be unlocked upon completion of Story Mode for various reasons. Once a Survival Mode level is completed, you'd unlock that same level in endless mode, and the next one in Survival. (hope you understood what i said)
Release Date?
(I plan on including this part on every monthly devlogs)
We're still aiming for a 2021 release date, although it'd be very late in the year. We still have so many things to do before we can even get to designing new levels. But we'll get there eventually, and we expect things to speed up from there.
I'm also a bit hesitant on whether or not we should share a new demo showcasing some of the new stuff. i still believe it's best to just release the full game once it's ready.
Thank you for reading and I'll see you next month for another devlog. Take care!
