Mod Selection Menu
This week’s focus was on getting the mod system with the mod selection menu implemented as much as possible.
I started the week by doing a rework of the main menu and mod selection menu. This rework was mostly internal while the visuals remained largely the same. I did this rework to better incorporate modding to menus based on what I learned about the possibilities and limitations of UI Toolkit in the week before. This system is still quite new to me and I’m constantly learning and discovering new stuff about it. I noticed that with a different workflow of creating my menus I would make it much easier for me and for modders to change the visuals. These changes also make it now very easy to add all kinds of color blind modes to improve accessibility. I’ve also done minor redesigns of the mod selection menu specifically and further implemented its functionality.
Finally I’ve submitted a bug report to the Unity team which they seem to have introduced in the latest versions of UI Toolkit. This always comes with a fair amount of work too in order to make it reproducible for them in order to get it fixed. That’s all I can really talk about this week because a lot of the time went into the menu reworks/redesigns and improving my UI Toolkit knowledge doing so. The next 2 weeks will be quite packed with other things I need to take care of so I expect to not be able to spend as much time on development. However, I believe with the mod systems base functionality done and more UI Toolkit experience under my belt I can still have noticeable progress to share with less time available. We’ll see how it goes :D
Notable tasks this week:
Finished mod selection menu base functionality
Fully reworked the main menu and mod selected menu to better support modding visuals for them
Filed UI Toolkit bug report

That’s all I got this week. I hope you are all doing well.
Stay safe out there and I’ll see you next week.
