Black & White Settings Menu & Polishing
This week’s focus was on the addition of many more settings, a bunch of quality of life improvements and overall polishing. For the settings, I added the remaining camera related settings, some miscellaneous settings such as limiting the framerate, audio settings and a lot of post processing settings. With almost all systems being done I created a simple black and white styled menu which will be included in the asset. It’s mostly there so people can test everything out (and because Unity’s default styles look awful) and can get going in a matter of seconds/minutes. Changing or replacing the style with a different one (bought online or custom made) is in most cases only a matter of a few minutes if the style (buttons, slider etc) already exists. This essentially allows the easy creation and integration of a settings menu in any game in the style of that particular game. To make this process even faster for developers I will be creating a few of the most common menu layouts seen across different games and genres. For that I did check out the gameuidatabase website and already compiled layouts that are used across many games. With minor modifications of those I’ll be providing it’s possible to cover a large amount of potential use cases and only the more unique layouts will require additional manual work. I also added a bunch of quality of life improvements to make the workflow even better/faster. Most of the remaining work now is finishing up a few remaining systems, polishing everything and getting documentation as well as tutorials going. I’m really looking forward to showcasing all the features the asset has to offer but in the meantime I can share with you the simple black and white menu.
