Now that the DeltaRune promotion is out of the way, I’m here to talk about DeltaRune not as a game, but as a part of the Undertale multiverse, and what its existence can mean for the development as Demolitale. This includes a piece of information that’s never been shared about this game before.
Let’s begin with a list of 3 things; keeping it simple.
We’re switching to a DeltaRune-styled battle system. This is not hype, but has a functional reason as to why we’re switching. The reason we’re switching is that for over half a year, Demolitale’s story includes the gameplay mechanic of more than one playable character in battle at the same time (not including the Tyranny mechanic for DT Genocide). Due to this, we’ve been struggling to find a style that would allow for this story & gameplay mechanic.
Then, DeltaRune came and showed us that we don’t have to 100% follow the classic Undertale formula. However, this doesn’t mean we will be using things like Defend, and likely not TP- unless we can’t find a loophole to explain a feasible reason for WP to exist. Think of it like the DeltaRune style above the HUD and the HUD itself to be more Undertale-like.
For now, enjoy an animation I cooked up for Jack (from Demolitale Brown)’s battles, as he readies himself with his trusty telescope, as an example of how the rest will look- each protagonist using their own unique animation:We may or may not have to change our original magic system- WP. As DeltaRune has its own system, ours might be debunked from even potentially being called canon. Why is this a problem? Aren’t we an AU, anyway? Yes, but the whole point of Demolitale is that there’s only one change: Frisk does not exist. Currently, we will continue to try and find a way to allow WP to exist without harming the canon.
This last one isn’t necessarily a change in Demolitale, but rather a change for everyone. Before DeltaRune, one may have felt reluctant to try to create a new Undertale fangame or continue on their existing one. However, with DeltaRune coming out and the fandom flourishing more than ever, not only will we fangames receive more attention, but a lot of us will feel more confident in our work as developers in the Undertale community. Thank you, Toby! : )
That will be all for tonight. I completely forgot that I was writing this so an unfinished draft was kinda sitting here for about 3-4 hours while I played Rocket League (lmao). I hope you’re excited for the new changes, as well as some of the new information about Demolitale that was released! Also, we’re getting closer and closer to 800 followers, and I’m so excited! I’ll see you all in the next devlog. : )
