> Dormitabis

Hey everyone. Today’s a day of many mixed feelings and thoughts to me, so I thought I would share them with you, as they might greatly affect the future of this game.

As many of you might know, Dormitabis turned 2 years old yesterday. It started development on November 19th of 2015, a day that has passed yesterday. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to make an update on this or not, but now I am. So prepare for a lot of stuff.

The development of Dormitabis has, quite frankly, been hell for these last two years. From the very beginning, a lack of communication between everybody has been a pain to deal with for all of us. In addition, there was things like getting tired of working, and especially in OwneTricks case, the case of a man who ended up taking almost all of the game’s development onto himself as time progressed, getting tired of Clickteam Fusion. He no longer enjoys using it, and I perfectly understand that. The problem is that GameJolt has been a pain for these last two years.

Everybody kept demanding more and more, and I can guarantee you that both OwneTrick and I tried. Late last year, there was a few days in a row where I would stay up until 4 AM to work with OwneTrick on school days, something that severely hurt my real life, but it was done anyway. The amount of time OwneTrick has invested into modeling, coding and similiar is much greater however, and even tho during those few days last year it seemed like the game was nearing completion, it would be a wrong feeling.

After that time, development slowed down further. The communication between OwneTrick and me grew more lack luster, and this stayed that way until late summer this year. At this point, I was aware that this finally has to be finished, and so was he. But at this point, I was also aware that this could not keep going forever, so I started looking for a solution.

The solution ended up being multiple deadlines.

These deadlines were layed out for OwneTrick, has the game had majorly been done, but a few things had been remaining. The original deadline ended around the 16th of August, but I ended up extending it to Halloween, and finally, until November 19th, yesterday.

The game has not been finished.

I am not trying to blame OwneTrick on this, nor am I trying to blame anyone. While TJ jumped in to help with some things, he still has a whole ton of work to do for himself, on a game that feels stuck in 2015, in an engine he no longer enjoys using, with development time limited due to his real life.

Honestly, Dormitabis will not be the masterpiece I was first intending it to be, if it comes out. At the time it may have had some new stuff, but really at this point, very few of it has not been done. The storyline I wrote out has gotten too crowded, confusing and flat out stupid at points to justify its existence, and changing it at this this point would require a lot of changes to pretty much everything. I knew nothing about game design in 2015, and while i’m not going to be a professional game designer by 2018, I know a LOT more about it now. And what I have created is simply not what I wish it could be now.

And while a lot of my communication with all of YOU has also been lack luster and often rather stubborn, stressed and even cocky, I want to apologize for this. I have grown as a person since 2015, and the way I have treated you was in a lot of cases not correct. And while I think some people deserve it, a lot of you also do not. Yesterday, I received a heartwarming comment from SDGaming12 about how this game improved his life for merely existing. And that made me tear up, no joke. I am impressed by some of the support I have received over these two years. After the pile of trash that was Insanity, my fnaf development “career” should really have been dead, but it wasn’t. People like SDGaming12 have supported me for two years, and this makes me happier than you could imagine. He left a comment about meeting new people, about getting into Fangames, about being glad for this game’s existence- even if it wasn’t finished at this point.

And honestly, I can only agree. I have met so many people trough these two years that I have become such close friends and even work partners with over these two years, and I feel like I actually have a personal bond to them. They ARE my life, even if my behavior sometimes isn’t on top.

Here I want to apologize to Michael_V and Salvage, by the way.

Recently, stuff happened, and I ended up blaming both of them on some of the negative reputation I have gathered. And while this may be true to an extend, It is not as true as my brain at the time wanted it to be. This is just as much, if not more, my fault. Mistakes are made, and the Internet does not forgive them- but I do. A sincere apology to both of you. I hope your current project goes along well.

I also want to apologize to all the people I have angered and annoyed with my personality over the past 2 years, including Kane Carter, BFP, and Drago. While me and Drago are on perfectly fine terms now, the last time I have talked to Kane Carter left a sour taste- and I don’t think I even need to start talking about BFP. I’m sorry to both of you for the trouble I have stirred, and I hope that we might be able to get on fine from here on.

I could go on for a long time here, but I don’t want to waste your time. I’ll get to the business now.

Is Dormitabis cancelled? No.

Do I know if it will be finished? No.

I have not talked to OwneTrick since his deadline died, and I don’t know how we will continue from now on. The future is uncertain past this point, and the only way to make it certain is to step past the line and take an in-depth look at it.

From my perspective, this could go one of two ways. Either I kill the deadline and let OwneTrick take all the time he needs, or I try something else.

For a while now, I have considered to ask Scrubby to finish this game, and a while ago, he seemed to be up for it. I don’t know if he is now, and the mess that this game is might be extremely hard to give to another developer- but for the most part, this game IS finished. There isn’t too much left to do. OwneTrick would be able to retire from using Clickteam Fusion, and the game might be done before the end of the year- but I don’t know if this would go well, and I don’t know if this is really what anybody wants.

In the coming days, I will most likely make a decision. In the meantime, this is up in the air. I will try to ask OwneTrick about this, but I don’t know to what degree of success I will be able to. Just know that if you see this- hit me up, please.

If you read all of this- thank you. I’ll be out now, I need some space to breathe. Have a nice day.
