That’s right! You aren’t seeing things. The full version of > Dormitabis is now available for download after 2 years of work! I can’t even begin to figure out where to start with this devlog. There is so much I have to say about this, so let’s start at the very beginning.
I want to give a huge thanks to absolutely everybody that has done any type of work for this game. This includes people that have left the team a long time ago like SuperArthurBros and helped to create the foundation for what this game became. It includes people like StevenMator and Ultr4nima, as well as TJ, that helped with small- yet important parts of the game, and most of all, it includes OwneTrick. As the team shifted and kind of dissapeared into thin air, OwneTrick took on a metric ton of responsibility and work in order to keep the game alive. He did so, so much for this game. Animations, Character Models, Coding. Without OwneTrick, this could have NEVER been completed AT ALL. And even tho working with OwneTrick wasn’t always easy or good, in the end, he managed to complete what he took on. And that is really what matters to me.
The way to this point was rough. There was a lot of false expectations from both you, the community, and us, the development team. I thought we were close to completion multiple times, which was foolish. And really, I should’ve just kept the volume down. One story I always like to tell about this game’s development when I talk to friends. Sometime in late 2016 I believe, I pulled a few all-nighters together with OwneTrick during a school week. I was usually up until 4 AM working with him on something very important to this game, as well as rendering things for him, all the while on a Skype call. It was rather exhausting, and I didn’t get much sleep in those few days, but I regret none of it. And that’s really kind of this game’s development process, overall.
So many things went wrong, so many things could’ve stopped this game entirely. And yeah, there was moments where I think everyone was pretty close to just quitting the project. But as time shows, giving up is the last thing you should do. Life is hard, and sometimes, something seems like it’s always going to be stuck in a state of impurity or incompletion. It seems like it never gets better, but as these past 2 years of development time show, that’s not the case. I didn’t cancel this game, Owne somehow did not jump off the development team even tho the extensive work that ended up resting on his shoulders, and in the end, you, the community, is what gets to experience the result of this long work period first hand. There is many, many things that I have given up on, but this wasn’t one of them. And thank god it wasn’t.
So, today, on the 25th of February, 2018, we present to you.
> Dormitabis.
Thanks for sticking around with us.
