I heavily dislike Undertale's fanbase. I seethe its very existence (especially now). I want this project and others similar to not fall into the same traps as the thousands of other fangames tend to do. lots of them are just the genocide sans fight but OOOOH its hard; or OOOOOOOOH he's killed his friends to try to stop you. they miss the point of undertale and its story, its message, its characters, and others that it contains. why is there little to no fangame battles for alphys? or undyne? or mettaton? or ANY of the other character that have more deep and interesting dynamics than TWO JOKE SKELETON FONT CHARACTERS!!! cause they are the main star of the show! yeah you can tell i dont appreciate sans and papyrus fangames as much as everyone else does; they just follow the same formula and dont try anything new or interesting with them. yes; of course there are exceptions; but no one takes much notice of the exceptional fangames that distance from the formula for some reason.
theres also other reasons why i hate its community. but i think i'll post why in a separate post. for now; im gonna complain about the unoriginal fangames!
so what is my point here?
i expect fangames to take the original, and change or twist the original you've never seen before. make something new about it! make it take place in a different time! change the landscape! screw with the fundamentals! THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS! but some people just dont like change; it can warp the canon in a way the viewer doesnt see fit; and i can agree! you have the right to determine your vision for this piece of media, your perspective of the world; if we didn't we wouldn't be human, we'd be ants; and i dont want to be an ant. fangame creators sometimes just dont see the potential on what they are making, its hard for them, and thats not inheritly a bad thing; it takes a while to see what you want your final product to be and i can relate to that. i have a hard time on what i want the final version of my projects to be like, it's relatable for all artists out there. but sometimes, they dont see the potential; and they make whatever they see fit; and often times, it bad.
like those crappy scratch games you made at like, 8 years old.
heres a message for those wanting to make a fangame, of any game; whether you are beggining to code or a schollar at it; heres some words of wisdom of mine: whats the game you making a fangame of? what elements does it have? what story is it telling? what are there characters and how do they impact the story? on the other hand, what is an artpiece that inspires you? whats a piece of work you can say that makes you feel an emotion? or what are your favorite movies? your favorite games? what do they have in common? what are some elements you can include in your fangame? really think about these questions when conceptualizing, creating, or developing the fanwork you made. it will help you out.
TL;DR: i dont like how unoriginal undertales fangames are and i wish they were more "original"
