Hello again! Tim DN is here.
So the topics for today's post are as follows:
Where have I been lately?
(yeah, I understand that such an explanation needs to be given in every post, considering how “often” they come out, but this time there really was a reason)
What's up with DT?
(progress and stuff)
How did Ksan pass the exams?
I think we'll start right now, without unnecessary introductions.
✨ The text and sprites for all «Easter» names are ready.
According to the traditions of UnderTale, the game will contain "secret" names, after entering which the game will give out funny messages. At the moment, there’re about 30 such names in the game with different comments and animations that accompany them.
Yes, you heard it right. In addition to the corresponding text, images of their owners will be attached to these names, which will make the process of finding such names even more interesting, and finding them more fun (well, I hope so)
. And yes, to access some names you’ll need to type them multiple times, so be curious and patient for some of them ;з
✨ The First TARDIS Interior is changed!
As I said in the previous post, I decided to quickly edit the interior and add this updated version in the next episode. At first it was minor details, then the alignment of the roundels on the walls, and at the end it was a full redraw of the sprite, which lasted for a week ± a couple of days. However, in my opinion, all these things weren’t in vain. Now this room has become larger, more detailed and more beautiful than it was. For complete completion, it only remains to draw the animation of opening the doors and edit the console and apply light effects, but this is already on Ksan.
✨ Little by little I supplement the script.
So far, a lot of events haven’t appeared, since I’m now polishing the old text and fixing mistakes, but as soon as I transfer all the sprites for the initial scenes to Ksan, I’ll complete the text. At the same point I can count thoughts about the name of our union with Ksan and the theoretically possible team, because "Tim DN and Ksan" doesn’t sound very much, as for me
✨ Well, now I'll tell you where I actually was...
This year, Ksan and I decided to participate in an in-game event called GameJam, which took place from July 10 to 12, inclusive. The idea to participate in this marathon belonged to Ksan, and he invited me to join him in order to assess our powers, gain new experience, work on one common project and just strengthen our friendship. Well, I naturally agreed. We divided our roles as follows: Ksan’s programming and looking for sounds with music, and I’m working on animations and the plot of the game. And so we had to work 48 hours, taking short breaks for food, sleep and other things, that is, in total we worked 38 hours.
The theme of this year's GameJam was «Out of control». According to Ksan's idea, this was supposed to be a story about a city in which every day different misfortunes are created because of God's anger at people, and in which everything always goes wrong (one might even say that it goes OUT OF CONTROL :”D)
. According to his concept, the main character is late for his work, but various obstacles on his way prevent him from achieving this goal, which is why he has to look for various ways to avoid the threat and at the same time survive. As a result, only the concept of sudden dangers and the task of getting to the office remained from the previous idea, plus we moved the action to our time. As a result, we got an approximate synopsis:
«The quarantine has ended! This means it's time to go back to work after a long break. But wait a minute… It seems that some townspeople have gone mad during their isolation! Now, freely going out into the streets of the city, they leave the sewer hatches open for you to fall into them, throw things out of the windows so that they fall on you, run through the streets, shout if you come close to their children, and are just ready to beat you for what you’re here. So now, if you want to get to work on time, you have to overcome all obstacles and survive in this crazy post-quarantine city.»
In fact, this game was made in the style of runner with elements of survival and with a random generation of traps and background. At the moment, we have an alpha version ready, which was sent to GameJam, but it’s so incomplete that we probably won’t give you a link to it so that you don’t lose your hands and eyes :"D. However, you can watch other games that were also made under the marathon here: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2020.
As for ours, we really enjoyed participating in this event, despite all the difficulties and fatigue towards the end. And since all this was spent a lot of effort, plus I like the material that was made, I’m not ready to part with the idea of this game. Therefore, we’ll most likely do this: in our free time we’ll finish the demo, and if people like it, then we can try to make a full game with a good plot, a lot of traps and with other things. But we’ll see about it.
✨ How did Ksan pass the exams?
Answer, very, very well. No kidding here. Not only did he prepare diligently, and on the exam everything was quite simple for him, he also received 75 points for computer science, and as much as 80 points for language. I don't even know what could be cooler than this (maybe only going where he wants would be as cool, but then it would be just fantastic :"з)
. Now we’re expecting a result in mathematics, and after that we’ll look for universities in which he wants to enter, and we’ll apply for them. Well and we’ll make games in parallel, of course.
That's all for today. I really wanted to share this news with you, although there are few of them. Now I'm gonna go to prepare for the next post and I’ll try to bring more interesting material for you ;з
And yes, most likely, soon we’ll start transferring the first scenes to the engine, so progress should appear soon.
But now, goodbye everyone! See you later! ✨✨✨
