Explaining WHAT The Return to Freddy's: The Emerald Butterfly is and what info I can give on the game!

(Thank you for 200+ Followers!)

Hey everybody, it turns out we have reached over 200 FOLLOWERS on the game page! This is such an incredible feat for me, especially since I never though any of my games would ever get this level of traction!

In my last post I opened up a Q&A for the game reaching 150+ followers for people to ask questions so I can could answer them. This did not result in a lot of comments, but I suppose there was not a lot of information about the game people could ask besides what the story, characters, or mechanics could be, so I put that blame on me.

But I figured I would give you guys insight on the game and give you information that I have yet really to explain, all you guys see is pretty visuals, and to some, a rather interesting story.

So I am here to answer the question, what exactly IS The Return to Freddy's: The Emerald Butterfly? I will also be explaining the interworkings with the game and showcasing JUST HOW MUCH progress I am at! I will also be discussing some complaints I've seen with the game, so stick around!

What is The Return to Freddy's: The Emerald Butterfly?

The Return to Freddy's: The Emerald Butterfly is a COMPLETE reimagining of The Return to Freddy's 1/Classic's story, written with new characters, new plot lines, and new mechanics, all of which still have some elements of The Return to Freddy's.

This game was in concept for around a YEAR or so, with many tweaks along the way to have a deeper story with a more interesting premise. Originally, the game was going to be a 3D TRTF fangame, but quickly scrapped this idea due to the fact that I am not very experienced with 3D modeling and because I really wanted to make a game all in pixel art!

This game is just an average FNaF fangame, 5 Nights, an extras menu, a custom night, and something new, being MODIFIED CHALLENGES, which are fun additions to some of the base game nights with a whole new rule set and mechanics, and upon completing them, you play with them in the custom night!

The story goes that you play as Henry Emily, a once-family man who seeks to find his long-lost daughter after researching about her whereabouts for years. Henry concludes his research and decides to find out if his theory is true or not by returning to Freddy's years later. The story is bit controversial to some people, so I will discuss more on this topic later to give people extra clarification on this writing choice!

This is a very basic synopsis of what the game truly is, and most of the information you see here is on the actual description page!

Now that the basics are out of the way, I have a very big announcement!

A DEMO is coming VERY soon!

You heard that right, a demo is right around the corner! I have spent months working on this game, and I can confidently say I have made enough progress on the game (around 50% actually!) to release a GAMEPLAY DEMO! The demo does still have quite a few bugs, so I will get a couple of my friends to try out the game and see what they like about it, and just to see if there are any game-breaking bugs!

The demo will include 2 Nights, a CUSTOM night with the available characters and ONE modified challenge! So, a fair bit of content for the demo!

Obviously, there is no story details for the plot just yet, only because cutscenes take FOREVER to do, and for right now, I just need the game to be SMOOTH SAILING for the rest of development 😫

Expect more news to come out soon for the demo when it is ready for launch!

Now that you guys know about the demo coming along very nicely and the extra tidbits of information for those craving for information about what this game is, I wanted to just give some fans of TRTF some clarifications on the story and why I inevitably changed it.

It's no secret that this game appears VERY different than other TRTF's remakes (minus the art style) and that comes down to the story and the inclusion of Henry Emily.

Henry Emily, for those who don't know, is a character who is revealed to be the co-owner of all of the Freddy's locations and is the muscle of the duo working over at the company that owns the Freddy's locations, with William Afton being the brains. Henry has two children who have been murdered by William Afton. Along with this, he is a widowed man. A man thrown into the wild.

Despite this, though, you never truly know about this information in the actual games, only in the books. Despite how much of a hero he is to the kids, to Elizabeth, to Charlotte, he is heavily overshadowed in the games leading up to Pizzaria Simulator, and I feel that is a real shame.

Knowing this, I looked at the idea of a Return to Freddy's remake and always thought about tweaking the games lore. Because despite me remaking the game in my own way, I actually don't really like TRTF's that's much, and that's because I think it is heavily flawed. It's a game series that is so bad, it's good, and that generally is the consensus among most FNaF fangame fans, and are they really wrong?

The series has sooo many problems with it, and that is why I both love it and hate it. I'm not talking about the games themselves or the graphics or anything, no, I'm talking about the story of all of the games and most importantly with The Dreadful Truth.

Now, the great thing about the original TRTF's Classic is that there really isn't a story, so it is very easy to just kind of make your own, but to model a game series using elements such as super cancer? The Gilbert Facility? The Machine? It just seems very weird and makes the idea of haunted robots in a desolate pizzaria get thrown out the window due to their "sci-fi" mobility and use of things so outlandish, it doesn't even feel like FNaF. (I do really like Alison and the Mafia idea though, that is genuinely great).

So how do you make a TRTF's remake trying to replicate the story of the ENTIRE volume 1, 2, or the Dreadful Truth? Simple! You don't. I decided to start fresh with a new idea that could be expanded very easily, while still following the same premise as TRTF 1, as, like I said before, the story for the first game is very malleable, and using characters from the actual series rather than creating new characters just seems to make sense, hence why I used Henry Emily and his family. Using Henry as the main character both gives REAL motivation for the character to return to Freddy's and also builds up him and the world they live in at the same time!

I know not using Mike Schmidt seems like an odd move, but believe me when I say that having something new and refreshing like this can really make this game stand out!

I know I basically said "The original game series is shit, I'm going to make the game better", but trust me, I don't ACTUALLY hate the game series. It's like a relationship with a step kid or a middle child, like, you exist, sometimes I love you, sometimes I don't. I do view this game series has heavily flawed, even bad at times, but it has a special place in the hearts of many FNaF fangame lovers due to its sheer impact on the scene, including me.

This game isn't made because I want to be a remaster of the first game, I'm making it because I respect what Tyler tried to do, and I respect most of the fanbase, and all I want to do is simply put my own spin on it like hundreds of other creators tried to do! And this controversial decision is what I decided to do, you can love it or hate it, but this is my idea of how to make a good remake!

Thanks for reading!

-Kameron.
