Hey everyone, I'm sure by now most of you are aware of the recent events that transpired in this community in close relation to Fangame Direct.
This post is made to address some of the things that were in the document, clear up any confusing, and discuss the future of our event.
Weshek was brought on the team as a director and manager at a time when not much progress was being made. We had recently lost a couple of our guests as well as some artists who would have created some assets to be used in the main event. From our experience Weshek was a good addition to the team, being able to manage an event of this scale in a pretty efficient manner. However, just as the document describes over time we noticed his vision didn't entirely align with ours.
Management soon turned into a massive issue as we had a way of running FD2 and so did he. This is to no one's fault besides our own, and we still feel regretful that things turned out this way.
There was also a proposal document for a supposed FD3, but that's all it was, a proposal. Needless to say this didn't go anywhere and we rejected a good amount of it.
We've reached a mutual agreement with him and he's stepping down from his management position.
Will there be a FD3? If so, what will it look like?
To put it bluntly, yes, we have plans for a third Fangame Direct. Of course, we aren't using any of the plans Weshek had made in his document. The vision for FD was never about money or creating a massive event. It was made by fans for fans, people who really cared about the games that keep our community alive and happy, even 10 years later.
To keep details brief since we're still in the extremely early stages of planning. FD3 will happen, but not anytime soon. FD1 worked so well because it was a fairly new concept that a fan game event could be open to such a wide audience. It had a lot of big titles and some new faces as well. There were aspects from all sides of the community, and it was something anyone could enjoy. We're keeping the same feeling. FD3 will be simple, have a solid roster, and promote an environment for collaboration and creativity. Personally, those were my favorite aspects of FD1.
As stated earlier, this is a while in the future, don't get your hopes up too soon. We've been starting with creating an efficient way to manage the event so none of the slip-ups in the past can possibly happen again. We want to really do the idea justice.
Thank you again for the support over the years. It's the fans that keep this community great.
