I know I’ve been talking about Dxtr too much, which is why I want to make one last post before I fully move on from this. The first one didn’t clarify enough, so hopefully this one will.
I don’t think Dxtr is a bad guy by any means. I talked to him in DMs on Discord and I initially did like the Lateshift and Farley videos even if I thought parts of them, ESPECIALLY the Nintendo No rap were excessive.
After I found out that he was using AI on his secondary channel though, on top of just hearing other people’s thoughts on his content, I took another look at it and I realized that I wasn’t really a fan of any of it.
I’m not really sure if Dxtr means it this way, but. His stuff is kind of insulting to the people who make it, not gonna lie. This isn’t even just a problem I have with the videos on my work, this goes for almost everyone on his channel.
Dxtr’s rage is just an act, I think that’s quite apparent by how over the top his anger is. The problem is that nothing he says is really constructive and a lot of the jokes and stuff he says is almost exclusively at the expense of the games he’s covering.
And I hate to pull the “it’s a free game!” card, but like. These are free games made by people in their spare time. That doesn’t make them pardoned from criticism, not in the slightest. This is the internet, people will criticize creative work one way or another.
In my opinion though, I do not think a game and its problems should be hammed up in a way like this for thousands of people who will just take him at his word and never choose to play these games. To use my game as an example, I saw so many people in the comments talking about how they were gonna avoid the game just because of how Dxtr presented the mechanics.
I won’t pretend like my stuff is easy, they are intentionally hard games and aren’t built for everyone, but. I don’t like that his videos, even if inconsequently, make people just avoid games like mine and just adopt Dxtr’s opinion to parrot around.
I’ve seen people on livestreams when Lateshift is brought up, only talk about that fucking rap song at the end and it’s just super obvious that they never even touched the game. Again, I don’t think Dxtr intended any of this, he seems like a decent guy, but at the same time. I don’t think videos on fan games should be made like this.
At the end of the day, that’s just my opinion. For people who like Dxtr, I don’t want this to be my way of telling you to stop watching his content. I’m not amused at him using AI and I think he should stop, but.
As far as I know, he’s just using it for his thumbnails on a secondary account. I absolutely think that’s lazy and that it’s kinda disgusting to feed people’s work into AI just because you’re too lazy to piece together a thumbnail that would take a minute or two, but I digress.
The point is, Dxtr isn’t a bad guy. And I’m sorry that my previous posts were extremely harsh and potentially could’ve painted him that way. I am not a fan of him and some of the stuff he’s done, but I don’t think he deserves any harassment.
At the same time, I also do not respect the content he makes and I am not a fan of the creators he has unintentionally insulted with the way he presents their games. Form your own opinion on the situation, do your own research, but for me, I’ve said my piece.
Sorry for the extensive talk about this, it’s not a very big problem but it’s been on my mind and I wanted to talk about it. Thanks, goodnight
