“I hope you enjoy Five Nights at Nutty’s 2 when it releases later this year.” That’s what I said when I released the first teaser back in April 2017. Oh, how naive I was. I thought I would’ve learned from FNAN 1, but hey, what can I say? A lot of stuff can happen in game development to slow it down.
Anywho, it’s been 5 months since the last update for FNAN 2, and 3 months since the release of Nut: The FNAN RPG, a FNAFB-style game I made because I felt like it, and so I felt it was about time for another update. As usual, not a lot of progress was made for a majority of that time. But on August 12th, I made a big decision regarding the game, and development has been much more steady since. I’ve been a lot more motivated to work on the game. What was that decision?
The minigames are being dropped entirely.
A large majority of the game’s life has been spent on me not working on the minigames, simply because I don’t want to. The type that it is, stealth, would require a lot of planning and spritework, and while I initially asked LegalMeme to conceptualise them, he eventually dropped out, so I had to do it myself. And I just don’t want to. Additionally, the screenshot of the minigames has been seen as the worst looking part of the game so far, so I don’t want to pour a lot of time into something people simply don’t prefer.
Therefore, the stealth minigames are being dropped. We have another idea as to how to progress the story post-night which we are developing, and one portion of the minigames will be kept in the final release, but besides that, bye bye.
So, as I said before, a lot of progress has been made on the game since August 12th due to the boost in motivation from not having to work on those minigames, and while I can’t go into detail on what exactly those things are, every step of them gets the game one step closer to being finished. We have a checklist of what needs to be completed in the game, and a majority of work left is regarding audio and finalising textures.
While I may be jinxing it here, I am certain I can get Five Nights at Nutty’s 2 released by the end of 2018. At my current estimation, the game is 85-90% complete.
To close things off, I just wanted to say I’m sorry. I’m sorry the wait has been so agonisingly long, even longer than FNAN 1’s, and a large majority of it was my fault. I’m going to say right now that FNAN 2 will not be worth the wait. While I do still think it will be a great FNAF fangame, it will not scream “~20 months of development”. So please do not keep your expectations too high when it releases. And thank you for waiting. All of you.
Night night.
