Florida State offensive coordinator and former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn has announced his retirement. This wraps up a 35 year coaching career in football. More below.


1991: Offensive Coordinator for Hughes High School.

1992-1995: Head Coach for Hughes High School. Made state championship in 1994.

1996-2000: Head Coach for Shiloh Christian High School. Won state championships in 1998 and 1999.

2001-2005: Head Coach for Springdale High School. Made state championship in 2002. Won state championship in 2005.

2006: Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receiver Coach for Arkansas. Won SEC Western Division and appeared in the SEC Championship. Lost to Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl.

2007-2008: Assistant Head Coach, Co-Offensive Coordinator, and Quarterbacks Coach for Tulsa.

2009-2011: Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach for Auburn. In 2010, won SEC Western Division, won SEC Championship over South Carolina, and won the BCS National Championship.

2012: Head Coach for Arkansas State. Won the Sun Belt conference championship over Middle Tennessee State.

2013-2020: Head Coach for Auburn. Replaced National Championship winner head coach Gene Chizik. In 2013, Auburn won the SEC Western Division and the SEC Championship over Missouri. Made a National Championship appearance. In 2017, Auburn won the SEC Western Division and made a SEC Championship appearance. He was fired after the 2020 season. Had an overall record of 68-35.

2021-2024: Head Coach for Central Florida. In 2022, UCF made an AAC Conference Championship appearance. He resigned after the 2024 season.

2025: Offensive Coordinator for Florida State. Retired after the season.

College head coaching record: 105-62

Bowl Record: 3-7
