Former James Madison head coach Bob Chesney has been hired by UCLA to be the new head coach. UCLA has allowed him to coach James Madison in the College Football Playoffs if they qualify. They play Troy in the Sun Belt Conference Championship. More below.


2000-2001: Graduate Assistant for Norwich.

2002: Defensive Coordinator for Delaware Valley.

2003-2004: Special Teams Coach for King’s College (Pennsylvania).

2005-2006: Special Teams/Defensive Backs Coach for Johns Hopkins.

2007-2008: Defensive Coordinator/Special Teams Coach/Defensive Backs Coach for Johns Hopkins.

2009: Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach for Johns Hopkins.

2010-2012: Head Coach for Salve Regina.

2013-2017: Head Coach for Assumption University.

2018-2023: Head Coach for Holy Cross University.

2024-2025: Head Coach for James Madison. Had an overall record of 20-5 at James Madison, with a bowl game win and a conference championship appearance, where they will play Troy on December 5th. He led them to an 11-1 record so far this year and a #19 ranking in the AP Poll, with the CFP ranking still pending. He could also lead them to a College Football Playoff appearance as well.

2026: Will be head coach at UCLA.
