I’ve had ideas for games like this floating around in my head, and I was super excited to get to put my energy into this contest. This is kinda part of a bigger vision I’ve had of making more tools to help globally and locally for us folk with the privilege of modern technology. I really want to integrate the casual or hardcore gamer with the villager in Africa who needs help with their math homework, or the orphanage in India who needs someone to research a new design for their garden beds.
In a game jam, it’s hard to build a longer narrative where you introduce touchy subjects wisely. This game is pretty abrupt in it’s delivery IMO, so I don’t think this game reaches it’s target audience, which is really ‘Anyone who notices abuse and doesn’t feel strong enough or have the tools to do anything about it.’ I’d have preferred to have focused a little more on making the game fun, because the message is way more powerful if people actually hear it!
The photos were all taken in Portland, OR, the day before the contest was over(hah!). I spent most of the jam solving some silly problems the battle system. I tried to spend 100% of my available time during the contest working on the game. If for some reason you watch through the livestream recordings, you’ll hear many conversations at the community house I live in.
As always, you are loved! Thanks for reading <3
