Going back to GM

Originally this game was a simple contest game, made in Game Maker 6, then I decided to do a more improved version since there was no time restraints anymore. However GM changed and Windows changed and GM6 no longer runs in modern windows properly, and I didn’t want to buy GM for a third time…but now GM Studio is free and more polished up then versions 7 and 8 were, so I decided to switch back.

There were a few minor changes to the code, do to it being so old and some functions obsolete, but it went smoother than trying to convert some of my other GM projects. Shield Breaker was made pretty clean and simple, so it converted easily.

The GLBasic hit a snag because I couldn’t replicated the bounce and proper pixel hit of the original GM version. Luckily nothing changed in that are for GMS, so the game runs about the same.

Shield Breaker EX had a lot of little improvements, plus special blocks and additional bonuses and powerups. Theres actually not too much left to do to finish this off, except of course having the time to do it.

However, I really would like to get this one done and over with, but I still need to find some good background music or something to make it more enjoyable. Possibly some more special effects and fun crap. I’d like to keep it free to play.

Also adding achievements would be nice, since this is an endurance run kind of game. Maybe allowing you to skip through sets of levels after you pass certain points.
