I really should have more to say considering it’s the 10th anniversary…
But I don’t (kinda)😭
Nothing to say for Unforgiven, but this is about actual Undertale after all.
The UTC has continued to be creative, break boundaries, and blow past any expectations I had. Within the last year, so much has happened to warrant me giving a long ass message, but as I said before, I don’t have much to say, thought I’ll try my best to come up with something. I’ll just talk about my history with Undertale since I already said what I needed to about the UTC.
Undertale hasn’t exactly been in my life for that long. I discovered it back in 2018 or 2019 (I don’t remember) when I decided to binge all of DanTDM’s stream VODs of his Undertale pacifist play through. Something about it when I first say the game hooked me, especially the Omega Flowey fight. A few weeks later, I binged it again.
That’s how I knew I fell in love, but that love was never apparent until quarantine where I watch Merg’s play through of Evan’s Dusttale and Legacy ULB. Then that love faded into obscurity as I felt it moved over to my then (and still kind of) hyper fixation, Team Fortress 2.
Fast forward to mid to late 2021, I discovered Dusttrust through Merg playing the 2020 pre-leak demo and Ari’s CYF demo. That’s what pulled me into the UTC, Dusttrust. I then watch a ton of Merg’s videos during then, until Distrust 2 came out.
Distrust 2 was the first “new” and “well known” fangame I was somewhat there for when it came out. I watched Merg’s entire series and loved the game. Months later, when I actually got a PC, I played it. I was too stubborn to learn to use arrow keys, so I connected my switch pro controller to play the game. I got about halfway through the phase after weeks.
Months later, I played DTLG and learned arrow keys through it. That was the first fangame I beat. The most recent one I beat was Distrust 2.
In the fall of 2023, I’d join Ari’s discord server as a Thanatos fan. That’s the first community that I felt welcomed in and like I could talk about my love for Dusttrust with others who loved it as well. And even if I’m not there anymore, it was nice while it lasted.
Each and every game I’ve played and been apart of since has defined to much about my taste in music, writing, concepts, gameplay elements, and so much more. Undertale is why I know what I want to do in life. Undertale is why my taste in music is different by people standards, and I love that. Undertale is how I made some of my closest online friends and how I met some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Undertale helped me see my passion for writing and video editing. Undertale has done so much for me and many others in the last 10 years.
Thank you, Toby Fox
