Hello! Hope you guys had a nice Christmas and a happy New Year!
TL;DR: I lost the project for the game, but got a backup with a few things missing so I'm currently restoring it.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Between 2023~2024 I was working as always on the game but had a few problems with my PC, and because of that, I ended up losing all my Hard Drive files, including the game project.
When this happened I was pretty sure I had a backup somewhere on Mega but when looking for it all I had was a backup from 2021 and I hadn't even made the new lobby yet, while I was still confident that I could make something about it, I decided to re-start the game from 0 but better, with a more robust base, proper models with IK to help me animate faster, etc, I was planning to make a post here as soon as I had something to show, but a few more things happened.
While working from scratch again I got the pleasant news about what Unity was planning to do with some kind of install fees or something and that got me incredibly demotivated to work on the game for a good while (I know I wasn't going to get hit by the fees right on the start but idk), I did have my eyes on a few engines at the moment to start again like Godot, Unreal and a few others, I tried to learn and do something on Godot right away but couldn't adapt well there so again, I gave up for a while.
Now, a few days ago I was looking through my files on Mediafire and I noticed I had a "Project's" folder, I indeed had a more recent backup there, it was a 1-year-old backup but, on this one, I was in the middle of 0.17.0 development so, I got my hopes high and decided to start working again from there, redoing what was missing, so I decompiled the current version of the game and started looking through the codes I remembered doing something and restoring it to the project, I'm almost finishing it! and while doing it I noticed a lot of things that were wrong like how I was applying the damage to the zombies and a few scripts that I made right at the start of the project that only God knew what I was doing there.
What Now?
Now I'll get back to work on the game since Unity also decided to cancel the installation fees, I can finally get back to do my thing, but I'm still looking into other engines to jump in when possible, I'll try to do something again on Godot someday.
For now, while I'm still in the restoration phase with the old changelog and the decompiled code right by my side, I have made a few QoLs for the game like skipping the countdown when dying on singleplayer, showing the explosion range from Engineer landmines, fixed a few things that were definitely wrong and a few others things I plan to show soon.
I apologize for this radio silence but I didn't want to make a post without anything to show, I'll be more careful in the future and make more backups from now on.
