In this post, I will talk about:
1) Development history.
2) Additional content (which is canceled).
3) Updates and DLC.
I'll start in order, I came up with the idea of the game back in early 2019, and then the game was conceived a little differently. Then at first I planned to make a simple 3d game about escape from home, but then I came up with the idea of moving between locations and tied it up that the events of the game take place in dreams (Hence the name of the game itself) and I also still planned to make the game in 3d, however, due to lack of experience in development 3d games (and in general, I still had a poor understanding of how to work in the Unity engine) at the end of 2019, it was decided to postpone the project indefinitely. Next, I started studying the Clickteam Fusion 2.5 engine to create and release my own games, and at the beginning of 2022 I was thinking about a new project and the idea came to me to create a quest horror game in an abandoned bunker, after some thought, I called this project a test task (The Dark Project) and made a text demo, the next day I I thought about the fact that, according to the plot, the main character traveled through locations and moved through them. later, I remembered that (Nightmare Dreams) had a similar concept, so (The Dark Project) turned into (Nightmare Dreams) and I started writing the script. The script had two versions, the second version you can see after playing the game itself, but the first one I already talked about in a post on the game, here I'll tell you in more detail, the script itself was more open to the world of the game, and there was a mysterious cat in the plot that accompanied the main character and helped to get out Of the locations, some locations were also associated with the main characters, for example, the first chapter was not a sewer, but an empty village, where the monster was a woman with a long neck and who pretended to be the main character's grandmother. I still decided to give up on this and focus on the mystery of the places where the main character is located and the various monsters that inhabit these places, so I started writing the script anew. Reading about the fact that I was planning to make a horror quest, you wonder (Where are the quest elements in the game? this is a visual novel) and I fully agree with this, at some point I noticed that I started not doing a quest, but a novel and decided to continue making a novel, because I thought that I would insert some elements of the quest into the game (as a result, I forgot about it so the whole game became a novel). When I finished working on the game, I started deciding on the release date and I chose October 7, 2023 (then I noticed that one of my friends had a birthday on the same day, that's a funny fact). Well, then the game came out, that's it... Well, there was something else I wanted to do in the universe of the game. By the way, as to why the game uses processed images from the Internet, I was looking for references for the game and came across a couple of images of the forest, I processed them into creepy pictures and I liked it, and it turned out that way. And what I can't find, I drew manually (These include monsters in the game and characters).
In the middle of 2023, when I was working on the game, I also watched analog horror films on youtube and thought, why not make my own analog horror about monsters from the game? with this idea in mind, I started thinking about a web series (Nightmare Dreams: The Secret Files) in each episode of which the main character of the series opened a folder with dossiers on each monster (or as I called them objects in the game) on the computer and looked through them, and then there was a test of subjects (well, whether subjects). The series was supposed to expand the universe of the game a little, but I never started filming the series, honestly I don't remember the reason why I refused the series, and even now I have no desire to do it, although I admit the idea of the series was good. Also, in addition to the series, at the same time, I was thinking about a comic book called (Nightmare Dreams: Subject №123), the location was supposed to be an abandoned bunker from the first chapter of the original game, and the plot itself was supposed to be a prequel to the events of the game and told the story of the subject under the code number № 123. Later, after the game was released, I refused to create a comic book because it had to wait a very long time (Honestly, I've been doing comics for a very long time, because of my inexperience in drawing) and when I announced a major update for the game, I decided to move the comic book plot into the game, but then I realized that the comic book plot did not bring anything new to the universe and canceled the addition with it, deciding that this plot is only suitable for implementation in the comic. Also in the middle of 2019, when I was still trying to make (Nightmare Dreams) in 3d, I thought about the 2nd part of the film, but immediately threw out this idea because I thought I would have nothing to add to the sequel.
Regarding the update for the game, I did not immediately decide to create it because I thought that I would still make the 2nd part of the game, but then I decided to make at least small additions to the game and a gallery of end art for the game. Well, I told you about the first add-on in the paragraph above, this is the add-on based on the comic book of the game, but the second one was supposed to tell the story of peronage Jacob, the add-on was canceled due to the fact that I did not meet the deadlines and was busy in parallel (Ladder Up), so I decided to cancel the add-on. As a result, of all the content that I had planned, only the concept art tab remained, and I decided to write another story and flash it into the original game, but the sequel to the game was canceled due to these misunderstandings. Well, then you know, a major update came out and that's it, now I'm quietly working on (Ladder Up).
In conclusion, I want to say that although the game turned out to be quite good, even with some drawbacks, but I'm still glad that I was able to release this game and bring it to the end, as for whether there will be anything else about the game, NO, I don't plan to do anything else about the universe (Nightmare Dreams) I'm going to focus on other projects, for example, I'm currently working on (Ladder Up), and after that I have three more ideas that I REALLY want to implement, so wait, good luck!
