There's something about Trials-type games that makes them so damn addictive. Maybe it's being able to pull of tricks on insane & physics-breaking courses. Maybe it's the drive to make the perfect run.
Whatever it is, Riders of Asgard manages to begin to tap into that manna.
The graphics are alright; they remind me of Nintendo GameCube-era models. In fact, this entire game feels like a GameCube game to me. Sound quality's alright, looping between two songs. The physics seem a little off to me. The ascending seems on point, but the descension is a little heavy to me.
The controls for Riders of Asgard are interesting, with the right stick controlling both transfers and tricks. It took me a long time to figure out the transfer system, about the same time it took me to learn the tricks. Maybe I'm still too used to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater's controls after all these years?
The only major complaint I have is with the time trial mode. The first level is unforgivingly hard to get through in two minutes. I pride myself as a damn good gamer, but even I couldn't finish the first level's time trial. Maybe it's intentional for the demo, maybe I'm just a n00b, but either way it's just my observation.
That negative aside, Riders of Asgard is another Trials-style game. Not saying that's a bad thing, mind you. The viking theme manages sets itself apart from the pack just enough to make it interesting. Overall, a it's a pretty fun game.
