In February I found the DDR Trailer at my workplace, the last somewhat known time it’s been on the road is 2000, I looked at its general good condition and knew it’s the trailer for me, I purchased it from another worker and then one of the first things I did was take this thing inside a Market like a shopping cart.
The next day I‘ve been informed the Trailer has no papers, meaning an inspection wasn’t enough to register it, but that didn’t stop me.
Taking it home was a story on its own, at that time I had no license or a car, and just hooking it up was pretty illegal, so my father had to come pick it up by loading it inside his van, getting it out afterwards was difficult because of how badly we loaded it up.
Having it at home I checked the most important things, rust spots and electronics, since the DDR Trailer was left sitting for so long pointing upwards it was like new everywhere, but the electronics told a different story.
When I opened the Taillights I didn’t think much, I just hoped it was all fine, which it was, until I had to swap out the lightbulbs, for whatever reason the Manufacturer decided back in 75 it would be a great idea to use brass for the sockets even though it wasn’t because it corroded out of existence and snapped off.
Since the Taillights were rotting away I wanted to check the Trailer Hitch Plug, and to this day I‘m one part glad I did and one part Regret 100 because whatever Stema was sniffing it kicked strong.
The Wiring was terrible, this Trailer has 2 Ground Wired, a single wire for brake lights, 2 separate wires for normal taillights and if that wasn’t enough the license plate lights don’t have their own wire, they are connected to the right taillight.
This absolute mess made me the Inventor of Anti Brake Lights and Indicator License Plate Lights, it’s dumb.
Fixing the DDR Trailer became second place for a long time because of the Audi, luckily that didn’t create any more problems which makes sense because I stored it in a dry garage.
Last week actually I had the time to finish it, I upgraded the lights to a Double Phase Socket made of stainless steel, checked the entire wiring again which is where I noticed the Brake Lights only one wire Taillights 2 wires thing and put on new tires to finish it off, I then went down to the local shop for an inspection and to request new Papers, it went really well, so well it only took 20 minutes.
The next day I went off to get said papers and then register it, that however took some time, and what didn’t help was I didn’t even know the Seller’s name, I still don’t to be honest, but that doesn’t matter anymore because it’s registered and road legal
