Something that I don't understand and has been bothering me since, is people who make a new character based on a popular character, but the new character just looks the same as the original, but otherwise could've just been an OC.
If I had to give an example, and y'all saw this coming, knowing me, but Sans. He needs no introduction, but have you heard of Ink!Sans? He acts nothing like Sans, but he looks like Sans tho. Why..? (Granted, I hear he got redesigned, so this may not be relevant anymore, but I'm not interested to see his new iteration anyways). What about Error!Sans? Nightmare!Sans, even? Orrr what about the multitude of skeleton OCs who just happen to look like Sans? Why out of any of the monster species in Undertale and Deltarune, people choose to reskin Sans? Unless it's for story purposes, I just don't see the reason to make an OC with the skin of an existing character. It leaves a lot of wasted potential to see other, more interesting varieties of UT OCs. Would be really cool to see a fish or raccoon monster, or something. The one thing I found engaging about UT and DR is the NPCs scattered across the overworlds. So many interesting personality types and such. Bratty, Muffet, Froggit, etc.
I could say the same about the Sonic community. Tails, Knuckles, Blaze, Espio... So many cool characters and species to make OCs out of, but the majority chooses to make EXEs and recolors out of Sonic tho.. What about a hippo OC, blue jay, duck, etc. Again, so much potential to see more interesting species in the Sonic universe. The Murder of Sonic gave us a new character to make fanart of and I love them! An quokka? That's really cool, actually..!

None of this really matters in the grand scheme of things and people are just having fun and such and maybe I'm just being a fun police, but I really encourage people to just...try. Try something different. Stand out from the rest of the crowd. You may not get it the first try around(trust me, I have my fair share of Sonic recolors I used to make myself, so I wouldn't exactly say I'm a saint myself), but it never hurts to be more experimental y'know.
