Multiplayer+leveldesign = (--)#
One of the biggest hurdles was coming up with a solid meaningful level design for the VS to take place on. My first thought was a Final Destination type of level like from Super Smash Bros, a simple flat platform for players to fight on. It always was a huge fan hit and is a solid balanced level. All that sounded pretty easy to make and wouldn’t take anything extra, well I decided that I wanted to give the players a bit more then that, something with some simple but fun mechanics something that is more ….. us.
I decided to go with a level design where items ( Daggers, hp, mana,) randomly drop in a area full of poison clouds. The only way to get rid of the gas is to go through a trap door that opens up on a timer. Once the trap door opens the players fight over who will gain control of the generator. The generator once hit by magic will get rid of the poison gas where the items are. The poison gas goes away only for a moment before it starts back up again.
We then all gathered around the T.V. it reminded me of being a kid and popping in a new game with some friends, it felt good. Finally the final test was about to start, literally after month of hard work ( from everyone on my amazing team ) I gave a sigh and then gave it a go. It……was…….a……BLAST!!!! The game-play was very fast and smooth. The mechanics all worked as intended, the UI looked awesome. I learned that I am not very good at aiming the magic attack, however I am pretty good at getting hit by it.
We are very excited to share this with everyone at the next Convention. which is San Antonio’s very own San Japan. I can’t wait to see you guys there. Till then, rock on.
