Job for a Pixel Artist, Graphic Designer, Animator in France at Motion Twin

Pixel Artist/2D Animator:

Who we are:

Motion Twin is a French indie game studio. We’ve been at it since 2001. We’re preparing to storm the gates of the Valve empire. We’re working on stuff like this:

http://dead-cells.com/
https://motion-twin.com/badass/

We want to do better. We want your help with this… Succeed and you’ll share in the profits and the glory. Fail and you shall be turned into some wretched French pâté and sold at the local market. To recover costs of course…

Job description:

Take on the role of Artistic Director in the production of a 2D retro point & click adventure set in a cyberpunk universe. It’s all in pixel art. But this has to be good pixel art. Real good pixel art. The type of pixels that make your average grandma stop and think about what she’s doing with the rest of her life.

Basically you’ll need to do all of the following:

  • Imagine and create the characters of the game in Pixel Art, then animate them.

  • Design immersive backgrounds and bring them to life.

  • Conceive a whole stack of graphic elements (props, UI, etc)

  • Create engaging animated FX.

  • Knock up some kick ass promo material and illustrations for the fans (and your portfolio).

  • Give a piece of your soul to the game. There’s a ritual around here. It involves blood.

  • Understand French accents.

Think you can curl grandma’s hair?

  • Preferably you have at least 2 years experience in gamedev or 2d animation. (if you don’t have the experience but you kick ass, then dont hesitate to apply).

  • Your pixel art is amazing. Like hundreds of retweets, lord of the #pixel_dailies amazing…

  • You’ve made game backdrops/landscapes and characters in PA that deserve more applause than certain overpriced paintings of sunflowers.

  • We want fluid, flawless 2D animation and FX skills. We don’t want jerky amateur animations. Even our marketing guy can do that.

  • You must be capable of working alone and taking the initiative whilst remaining sociable and organised. This is a social company, you will have to fend for yourself amongst a group of demanding people who are busy doing their part of the job.

  • You should be someone who’s never satisfied with their best. That kind of perfectionist that stays up all night pushing the boundaries of what they never knew they could do.

  • Are you a “swiss army knife”? Basically, if a job needs doing, you can do it, or learn how real quick.

  • You need to be really involved in gaming. This will be a long project and take all you’ve got. This requires passion.

  • You want to wake up in the morning and make games.

  • If you’ve been involved in game jams that always helps.

What we need from you:

  • CV

  • Cover Icon. You’re an artist not a letter writer. Draw us a freaking picture.

  • Be able to get past a test (we’ll ask you to draw and animate some stuff in a set period of time.) If we like what we see we’ll call you for an interview.

The contract:

  • You’d need to relocate to France for a period between 6 to 18 months. Your first contract would be for a guaranteed period with the possibility (read certainty) of another fixed term contract depending on the length of the development process.

  • You don’t have to speak French but it would be a bonus. You will have to be able to deal with french/australian accents however and make yourself understood. If we ask for a giant robotic fire breathing frog and you bring us a butterfly………

  • You’ll earn good money and live in a cool city (Bordeaux). Feel free to contact us by email to ask for details, but we think you’ll like what you hear.

  • We’ll help you deal with the French government. This is not to be underestimated. These guys invented the word ‘bureaucracy’. Rest assured we know what we’re doing.

Where do I sign up?

Send us your application and portfolio etc to: [email protected]

Applications close on the 10th Nov 2015.
