July Update

Retrace Devlog for July

If you haven’t been following us on Twitter, here’s what the Retrace team (we’re a real team now!) have been up to for the month of July.

A New Friend

The lovely Anna Radak has joined us as our Marketing Director and Producer! With her help, Els and Domi will be able to give greater focus to the script and art respectively.

Art Updates

Every #IndieDevHour (7pm GMT Wednesdays), we’ve been posting character reveals. For your viewing pleasure, here are the ones we’ve posted so far!

Writing Updates

It’s done.

Well, the first draft is done. Anna and Domi are currently going over it with a fine-tooth comb, while Els cowers in fear of their judgement. Early impressions are positive, though. From here, the script will get another rewrite, then another editing pass, and then it’ll get plugged into the engine proper to see how it fits with the game design.

Programming Updates

Thanks to the hard work of one Julian Adams, Retrace now has a beautifully working dialogue engine!

This is assuredly not the final UI design or assets, by the way. What this is, is an example of why no-one lets Els make design decisions. (After posting this screenshot, Els got a very worried message from Domi seeking reassurance that this was not, in fact, what it was going to look like.)

Here’s a secret behind-the-scenes glimpse of what the syntax looks like …

Pretty cool, right? And so easy to use! Importing the script into the engine takes no time at all now, whereas before it was looking like Els would have to do it one line at a time. Problem: solved.

What’s Next?

Right now, Els is considering some alterations to the script, Domi is nearly finished the lineart for the talksprites, and Anna is, excitingly, working on an official website! Keep an eye out here or our Twitter for more as it happens!

Chiaki Nanami!

Here's a peaceful little forest scene for this #screenshotsaturday, from the beginning of the game.

Just a Pico sprite

Back in my art school days I used to ride the 710 COPSA line from Parque Del Plata to Montevideo almost everyday. This is the Marcopolo Viaggio G4 Mercedes Benz model from the late 80s, one of the older bus models that was running on the line.

Demonstration of the spells and their effects :)!

Spaaaace~

These are background sprites I've created for a game I'm working on at school ^w^ Click on the post to see how the sprites connect. You won't regret it! (personally, I think it's pretty heheh)

Drawn in Piskel using my mouse. Whaddya think?

An infected room from the second part of Cybel ! Are you up for some cleansing?

I did this on my 3DS ^^ #Kirby

Here's a Fredbear sprite i made in Aseprite! I'm pretty proud of this!

(Btw, sorry for the double post! I'll try to post less)
