Keep in mind that the sample size is only 4K studios and limited to GDC attendees (mostly AAA). What works for AAA might not work for you, so use this to understand a % of the industry, not as guidance on what you should be doing.

You can access the report yourself (link below). I took screenshots of what I thought would be useful. Feel free to ask questions below so that we can all look into better understanding our industry :)

"PC remains the most popular platform among game makers, and over 10 percent are currently making games for next-gen consoles"

image.png

"Android remains mobile devs’ most popular platform, though the number of devs making mobile games is slipping"

image.png

"Consoles lag behind PC and mobile when it comes to cross-platform multiplayer support"

image.png

"Nearly half of game makers are or have been involved in AR/VR development, and current VR devs are shifting focus from the HTC Vive to Oculus and its new Quest headset"

"More than 25 percent of devs are working with a publisher"

image.png

"Most devs still rely on company money or their own to fund their projects, while interest in crowdfunding remains low"

image.png

"Just 6 percent said they received funds via crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter, and when we followed up with a question about their experience with crowdfunding, nearly half of respondents (48 percent) said they had no interest in crowdfunding at all."

image.png

"Loot box mechanics remain an unpopular method of game monetization"

image.png

"Most respondents have spent less than a decade making games"

"Most devs don’t think Steam justifies its 30 percent cut; many suggest 10-15 percent instead"

Again, this is just what stood out to me and hopefully is helpful, you can read the full report yourself here:

Let me know if these types of posts are helpful and I'll continue to share. :)

Lucky Tower Ultimate is a chaotic, comedy roguelite. Escape from an incredibly dangerous, randomly generated tower in a slapstick adventure that looks like a cartoon and feels like a joke. Slashy slashy!

Woah. How are you all feeling about Unity's new pricing for smaller devs? Here is the article I grabbed this screenshot from. https://venturebeat.com/games/unity-adds-fee-for-installs-for-su…

The chad among us @KniteBlargh

After YEARS of wanting to start painting, I finally started yesterday. I’ve been collecting paintings I wanted to recreate on Pinterest, TikTok, Instagram and Game Jolt.
