Level Browser Update!


Hey everyone, first of all, thank you all for your overwhelming support of FNaF 57 Maker. It’s greatly appreciated, and I understand that a lot of people are hyped for it and counting on it to make their Christmas.

I’m doing everything I can to get the game out ASAP, but I will not release an unfinished product, especially when I want to add additional things to it.
At this point, you’re probably wondering: What is the release date for FNaF 57 Maker?
To answer that question, either Christmas if you guys are lucky, or just in time for the new year/January 2017!

Now, onto my next point, which is the title of this news post. I’ve been working on a level browser, which I mentioned as a possibility in my last post after I found a free server host, and after tons of coding and debugging, I’ve got great news for everyone! It works! As of right now, I’m only using it for Official Levels, but I may be implementing it for Community Levels in the future/final release. I’m still testing it out, and working out some kinks, so please bear with me, but this is fantastic news, especially for all of the testers, as that means all I need to do is upload your FNaF 57 Maker to the official level repository, and boom, it’s in the game! I’m also working on registering/creating accounts aka FNaF 57 Maker IDs for the game, so that no imposters are seen if and when a community level browser comes!

Secondly, with the implemention of the free server host I found, I’ve managed to shorten the Level IDs, aka the string or line of text you use to share levels (aside from Level Files), to just under 150 characters! This is great news, as Level IDs are now easily sharable, and are no longer obscenely long. In addition, the Level ID length is always the same no matter how big your level is, unlike previously where the bigger your level, the longer your ID (up to 100,000 characters sometimes!)
This has already been implemented and I’ve tested it multiple times and it works completely fine, so yeah! ((Sorry to all the testers who had to deal with those obscenely long level IDs!)*
If you’re curious about the technical details of how this works, the long string of text that was being saved previously was literally the entire level’s savedata (which included positions of everyone and everything), hence why it was so long. However, with the server, I’ve made it so when you export the level, instead of giving you the RAW level ID/save, it uploads it to my server, and returns an encoded download link which is in the same style as the level ID to you, and it’s under 150 characters long!

Lastly, I’d like to mention with the implemention of this server and whatnot, FNaF 57 Maker will only be playable if you’re connected to the Internet. It is a online-only game, and you will not be able to play it otherwise.

Sorry for such a big news update, as you can tell I’ve been working on it quite a bit, and this server host thing has fixed plenty of issues! So, due to all this new stuff, some of which is already implemented, the game may not be able to release in time for Christmas, but I’ll still try to get it out by then, but don’t count on it!
