Hah! The adorable Patamon was just a ruse! This is actually a test post for my new segment! For those of you who don't know, I recently posted a Poll to ask what people would prefer I post. It was suggested that I make a segment for my posts that talks about some trials or difficulties I had with the art. So... Without further ado... I present...
Welcome to Pixels In Progress! This is the segment where I talk about a difficulty I had with the art posted above. Now, where to start...
Shrinky Dink
One of the difficulties I had while making this was getting the size right and choosing the right image to use. I've shrunk pictures into pixel art before, like my Gatomon art, but I wanted this piece to be like a little 32x32 sprite. To shrink a large image down that much, wasn't so easy. I'd really have to get the shape right for it to look as cute as Patamon.
My first attempt was with an image of Patamon standing. The first thing I did was shrink the image down.
After that, I traced the image with pixels, changing a little bit of the shape to fit my liking.
After all that, I filled it in with color and shaded. This was my result.
It's okay, but wasn't really what I was looking for. I wanted something a bit more expressive. The size was really close, but the shape wasn't quite right. I think the eyes and smile look a little off.
I repeated all the steps above to the image on the right of the post, and eventually, with a bit of tweaking and animating, got what you see at the top.
So what do you all think of the new segment? This time was just a really small practice segment, so it probably wasn't very exciting.
Please give me honest feedback: What do you think of the style? The presentation? Is there anything you'd like to see? I'd like to hear all your thoughts.
