Hi everyone. I'm developing a pixel-based Japanese-inspired RPG called Mana Fire. It's gonna be quite a big task, so that's why I'm looking for people who can help with the development of the game.

I've split the entire thing into five categories:

  • Ideas

  • Development

  • Programming

  • Music

  • Art (with it's own categories)

Here's a quick explanation of each...

Ideas are concepts such as characters, story lines, and items. For me, this is basically anything I can think up and jot down on paper or something. I've basically got this category down, and I have friends helping me with it already.

Development is creating and designing the game within the game engine. I'm tied on whether to use GameMaker Studio 2 or Godot, however I'm hoping to settle this soon. I may need a little help with this category.

Programming is simply the code for the game. I know how to program, and I guess I could say I'm good at it, however I would like to have people doing it other than me because first, after failing code a lot of times I like to give up, and two it will help me learn better too.

Music is split between the actual BGM and the SFX. I'm currently searching for people to make up the OST for the game. I'm wanting to have many people working on it, with many different styles. This group will probably have the most developers.

I have one artist for the game already, however he most likely won't be able to cover it all because of the size of the game.

Art is split into seven categories (yes, more categories)

  • Battle Backgrounds

  • Overworld Sprites

  • Overworld Tiles

  • Battle Sprites/Character Portraits

  • Concept Art

  • Overworld Map

  • UI, Title Screen, etc..

Battle backgrounds are just like the ones from Mother 2/3. If you are good with making detailed patterns and creating effects for those, then this is for you.

Overworld sprites include the player, NPCs, and other things that move around and stuff. For this game, they don't have a low detail, but aren't necessarily high detailed.

Overworld tiles include trees, houses, walls, floors, anything that remains stationary on a map and can be placed by using a tilemap.

Battle sprites are where the main magic of a turn-based RPG happen. For this game, they will be higher-res, similar to Undertale, and will have a variety of animations and expressions. This category also includes character portraits, which I've also been heard called "mugshots". These are simply the character's face and expression on their dialogue box.

Concept art is helpful for all of the artists actually. It helps them figure out what to do. These are usually paper or digital drawings (not pixel art). It can also be used for thumbnails of the game, designing for the website, and more.

The overworld map is where the overworld tiles come to use. Once the tiles are made, and the designers have made up a map, the overworld map artist puts the map together, like in Tiled or the GameMaker tile editor.

The UI and other stuff includes the art for dialogue boxes, how the UI is set up in battles or menus, the design for the logo, title screen, and much more.

The art will be in a pixel-art anime style, just for a note.

Sorry for all of that! (That wasn't much of a quick explanation).

So who all am I needing? I'm looking for programmers, music composers, and artists. I am also accepting general purpose engine developers. I'm currently not accepting anybody for ideas because I've already got it covered, however if you have any suggestions, then you can let me know! I'm always open to questions or suggestions.

This isn't included, but a Japanese translator would be handy as well. I'm learning Japanese, but you can't really trust a learner's translations, y'know.

If you'd like more information, then contact [email protected]

I also have a community for it: https://gamejolt.com/c/manafire-xfxu7m

Thanks for reading, and have a nice day!
