A new update will soon be released on the 25th! It is adding SO MANY things that should make the game experience more rewarding and satisfying! There's a lot to get into, so let's start!
3 NEW ENEMIES!
There are going to be three totally unique enemies added to the enemy roster that you need to be careful of!
JACK FAIN (Corridor 14+)
Jack Fain is generally a stronger version of the Searcher in every single way. That's his amazing, beautiful and luscious hat doing all the hard work! As a down side, he has really low Health. Taking him out turns him into a normal Searcher, losing the power of the godly hat!
SLICER (Corridor 21+)
Slicer doesn't attack at all, all she does is jitter in a certain rhythm. When jittering, DO NOT hit her, or else she'll run down the Corridor, hitting you and dealing MASSIVE Damage. It's always safe to hit her when she's not jittering.
SAMMY LAWRENCE (Corridor 24+)
The Ink Demon Lite™! Just like the Ink Demon, he has both a melee and ranged attack. His ranged attacks are spinning axes that are heavier than the Lost One's blobs, meaning they travel slower and fall faster, but deal more damage on impact! When the player gets close enough, Sammy will start rapidly swinging, dealing half as much damage as his thrown axes.
Due to the addition of more enemies and the nature of the enemy spawn code, enemy spawning has also been revamped! With that, tutorials and positions for every enemy has changed!
NEW ENEMY SPAWNS (Excluding New Enemies):
- Searcher: Corridor 1+
- Fisher: Corridor 4+
- Lost One: Corridor 7+
- Ink Demon: Corridor 10+ (Unchanged)
- Piper: Corridor 11+
- Striker: Corridor 17+
Every enemy is guaranteed to spawn on their first Corridor. Tutorial Corridors are not randomized and are instead set to have fixed enemy lineups to emphasize the danger of that enemy in more dangerous scenarios.
4 NEW PERKS!
To round it up, the amount of Perks has been increased from 16 to 20! These new Perks should unveil new playstyles and aid you in your journey to escape The Studio!
SLICE N' DICE (SPECIAL PERK):
Have you mastered the art of timing your attack just right to destroy any incoming projectile, but don't feel rewarded for doing so? Slice N' Dice will be the right fit for your toolkit! After successfully destroying a projectile with your attack, you gain a small amount of damage back as a reward. This can be done up to a few times before reaching a giant damage boost! But be careful, being hit by a projectile completely resets this beautiful bonus!
PLAGUE DOCTOR (SPECIAL PERK):
Thick Skin and Golem ain't enough in the higher Corridors? Reduce enemy damage further with Plague Doctor! Plague Doctor gives your attacks a Plague effect. Hitting an enemy causes them to deal less damage for a short duration. It's probably because of the smell...
ELECTRO PIPE (SPECIAL PERK):
Do some enemies attack too fast? Zap 'em up with this new perk! Electro Pipe every few seconds charges an electro attack! Electro attacks on hit electrify enemies for a short amount of time, delaying their attacks by nearly a second until the Electrify effect wears off. Fisher and Piper won't like this...
PAIN THERAPY (SPECIAL PERK):
Are you attacking so fast that the enemy's invincibility frames are getting in the way? Pain Therapy helps you with exactly that! This perk reduces the duration of all enemy invincibility frames your attacks give to them on hit, meaning that rapid fire attacks will be more satisfying to use than ever!
While talking about perks, a helpful Quality of Life change has been made! Locked perks now also show you the precise description of a perk before being bought, helping you decide alot more better instead of hoping!
3 NEW BACKGROUNDS!
Before we move onto the newer additions, I think it's the right time to talk about the new backgrounds being added to the game! These backgrounds, just like the previously talked about features should keep the game fresh and exciting while trying to reach higher Corridors!
1. OLD DESK
2. THE KITCHEN
3. BENDY LAND
RANKS!
Wait... What's that?! More reasons to reach higher Corridors!? Indeed it is! Ranks are a fancy and flashy cosmetic that appear in the menu. The higher your score is, the fancier your Rank gets! There is up to 8 Ranks to climb and they reach quite far, so you have ALOT to do if you want to get to the top!
RANK 1: BRONZE (0-149 Score)
RANK 2: SILVER (150-299 Score)
RANK 3: LEAD (300-499 Score)
RANK 4: GOLD (500-749 Score)
RANK 5: ROSE GOLD (750-999 Score)
RANK 6: PURE GOLD I (1000-1499 Score)
RANK 7: PURE GOLD II (1500-1999 Score)
RANK 8: PURE GOLD III (2000+ Score)
HATS!!!!
Even MORE COSMETICS!! Hats let you customize your character. No more basic bald lost one! This update brings up to 5 UNIQUE hats to collect!
1. MIGHTY CROWN
As a reward for reaching that Pure Gold III Rank, you get the special Mighty Crown, marking you as the king of The Studio!
...right below the Ink Demon.
2. GENT GOGGLES
For the lunatics that somehow managed to unlock ALL 20 available Perks in a singular run. Good job!
3. JACK FAIN'S HAT
Random drop from the new Jack Fain enemy! Doesn't include any special powers though.
4. SAMMY'S MASK
Random drop from the new Sammy Lawrence enemy! FYI, you won't be able to see anything.
5. SANTA HAT
Unlocked instantly for free!
Those were the more major things added in this update, but there is still slightly more!
WASD CONTROL SUPPORT!
Don't like the default arrow key controls? Well now in the Settings Menu you'll be able to switch from Arrow Controls (ARWS) to True Gamer Controls (WASD). The new WASD controls also come with a new Mouse Sprite that indicate when you can attack!
IMPROVED TUTORIAL AND PERK SCREENS!
While Ranks and the new Enemies will bring new tutorial screens, some existing ones also received a major uplift in design and an updated description to fit the new changes! Same goes for the Perk selection screen, which previously to be honest looked kind of ugly.
BALANCE CHANGES!
Not a lot happening balance-wise, but some changes were made to tweak the experience!
The Ink Demon's attack hurtbox height has been increased so his attacks now hit the player even while crouching. At first this was intentional game design, but it undermined the Ink Demon as a boss and made the fight very campy. This should bring more challenge to The Demon himself!
The Piper's sight range has been increased from 100 to 120. This was done to fix a small bug that caused him to burst out two attacks in a row, with the second attack having very slightly more reach. This was caused by the player exiting and entering Piper's sight range very fast. This is only prevalent with the Piper because of his near instant first attack. Hopefully now it shouldn't appear as much!
BUG FIXES!
There were some found and needed to be fixed instantly!
- Searcher/Lost One after being spawned by the Ink Demon didn't despawn after the Ink Demon disappeared.
- Lower Exit Game Text had a white color instead of red.
- Lost One projectile's splash effect crashing the game in very obscure situations (example: player charging into the enemy backlines while the Lost One was about to throw its projectile)
- Pressing the Play button shouldn't make duplicate 'Start Run' buttons (this goes for Guide and Settings too)
- Many more issues have been fixed to make sure the game is in its finest state!
MINOR QoL CHANGES!
These changes should make the game feel more immersive and better to play (most of them have already been previously mentioned)
- Added an indicator to the Patient Patient special perk with the addition of the Electro Pipe perk. The indicator shows exactly when you'll be next healed!
That's it for the update! There might be some small tidbits that I may've forgotten to mention, but this is the main gist of this massive festive update! Have a good christmas everyone!
