I told ya that PYRO-ILLUSION just went into "side project" mode, but that doesn't mean no progress is being made
These past few weeks I've been working on 2 new things!
First one is re-coding an old part of the game. I think it was coded back in mid 2018 (damn, time flies!) and from all of the parts in the game, it really needed a revamp: let's say the code was working, but it had a few bugs that really broke the gameplay. It was so fragile that I couldn't just change or fix the glitches, and it would have been a pain to understand again how the code worked.
For code gurus, the issue was how the integrity of the scene relied on the order of the events happening. And if one small thing was off, it glitched the entire scene. That is why I just couldn't "simply" fix it. The other thing is the fact that this specific game sequence is not that complex gameplay-wise, the real issue is that there are tons of different "cases" and action combinations that the player could trigger. I had to be extra careful to look into all of the different action possibilities and to make sure that all works as expected.
That was a great opportunity to just yeet the whole code out and star over, re-coding it from scratch. Outcomes? So far, works pretty freaking well! Solid, glitches free, clean and fast code. It was also a cool way to update some sounds, add some easter eggs, and revamp the feeling of it!
What are my plans? Unfortunately because of this corona virus thing, I have twice as much stuff to do (college isn't taking it easy at all lol). Best would be if I finished this game sequence as soon as possible, and then send it to the testers, so they could start dissecting the files. I really hope they'll like it.
Oh also good news! @matepribelszky @Raccoonicorn and @MERKARROW are joining the testing team! :) Psst they don't know about this for now, they'll discover it if they read the post.
(Something else that's cool) I decided to add some of the testers to this page as collaborators, so they will be able to make some posts and tell what they thought about the parts of the game they've just tested! Of course without spoiling anything too big. It would make this place more active, and probably also a lot more interesting, not only having me posting boring text all the time. Tell me what you think about this in the comment!
The second thing is just something I made for fun, I created a log-in system for the test files, it's connected to a database! Testers get an account and they use it to open the file. I might turn this into a public tool later that you could be using for your project! A nice management system! Could be cool, what do you think?
One last quick note, make sure you check out this fan-art page too if you haven't already: https://pyllusion-draws.com/
Yeessssh look at that fancy domain name!
We've got some wonderful artworks and we need some more people! >:3 Support these epic lads!
