My 1st Devlog


Hey Guys!

SO if you don’t know me, my name is JL. I’m only a 14 year old, but I’ve always said, “I’ll build a game! I’ll build a game!” and I never got to it… Until now.

The problem was that I didn’t know how to use any engines at all. But since I’ve seen so many Unity games in my lifetime, I decided to give Unity a try.

So as you guys can see, it’s the Roll-A-Ball tutorial from Unity, except mine has more. More levels coming, more 3D Text, Dropper for some levels and probably a storyline too…

I’ve only been working on this for 2 days, and I would like to give a shoutout!

Thanks You Sam and Alex for the Ideas, and Thanks You Norman for testing out my game! You guys mean a lot to me and the development of my game.

SO here are a few known bugs with the game at this moment:

  1. Everytime you grab a cube, it gives you DevelopmentConsole and NullReferenceExpectations.

    • A fix is being worked on, and it could possibly be a fault of the PlayerController Script [It’s a script that makes your player move, and grab that cube + physics] but also, since this is occurring, the Count counter isn’t working, so it won’t give you the game ending…

  2. The splash screen on the Resolution Selector [Unity Launcher] is a square/squished

  • This is a problem with the picture itself. Unity compressed it, and yeah… It ended up looking like a total dork.

  1. Running too fast makes you go through walls/you fall out of the map

  • This is something to do with Unity’s physics, Vector3. The player is set to speed 20 which will make you go through Level 1’s and Level 2’s side walls.

  • And as for falling out the map: The bridge is 0.2 lower than the actual ground of Level 1 and 2, thus, causing you to fly when you go to fast, or suddenly stop due to the physics engine of Unity itself. This only solution to when you fall out the map is to restart your game because there is no Respawning at this moment.

  1. There is a pink object out in the distance that can be seen from level 1’s bridge

  • That is Ethan, the human in the corner of Level 2, I honestly have to no idea why Ethan’s body is outside of the map, but there is a colored version of Ethan in the top left corner of Level 2.

  • Also, I like to keep it there to troll players too.

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.
