Last night was stressful. My parents had to be rescued this morning, and they left one of the dogs behind. I’m feeling helpless 2000 miles away in CA. So I wrote some backstory to the game, to help me deal with it.
The Arena
Many, many years ago. The earth was an overpopulated and violent place. It was some time after World War 5 when “The World League of Peace and Truth” first developed The Arena.
In the beginning they would throw prisoners, the homeless, and those who rebelled against the WLPT into the its pit. As the years went by, they started throwing anyone into The Arena who showed any form of aggression, regardless of age, in prevention of another “Greatest War”. Today, the arena is a self functioning artificial intelligence called CRUSH.
It’s ruthlessness and bloodshed is shown across the galaxy, one of the few forms of sports entertainment that exist today. No one has ever survived the arena with their body or mind fully intact.
The Contestants
Some are the mentally ill or too old to benefit society, most are slaves, being bet on by their wealthy thrill seeking masters. They are warped into the arena with nothing more then a pistol and a onesie.
These gladiators find death and resurrection to be a frequent and painful experience, for the arena does not allow them to die. At least, as a contestant.
Ralph - The Ammonaught
Ammonaughts are the pack-horse of the arena. They are provided to the contestants to supply weapons and keep the crowd entertained. Inside that armored suit is usually a prisoner looking for freedom or someone in extreme debt.
Ralph is the later, after going into debt because of a gambling addiction. Ralph will role the dice during a game of cards, so don’t expect him to be strategic with throwing out weapons.
Streakers
A practice as old as the arena. No one knows why anybody would jump onto the killing floor in the buff. It’s hilarious though, and no one seems to mind. They’re mostly fanatics or people who worship the arena as some god, giving there body as a sacrifice.
Their rush for fame and the boosts of adrenaline allow them to take several shots before going down. The arena rewards the contestants a gift if they kill them, but you should never trust the arena.
