My First Game - Open Solitaire Classic (an open-source solitaire game written from scratch)

I was playing Stardew Valley and learned that it was the creation of one developer. That impressed me, because I really thought that it would take a big team to come up with a decent game like that.

So I started doing research into game development, found out that he used XNA, and that MonoGame was the cross-platform replacement for XNA. As someone who used Linux for several years before switching back to Windows to do music production, I have a soft spot for Linux and the open-source community.

I started taking this class on Coursera to learn MonoGame, and found it a bit boring for my tastes, what I really needed was a project to work on. While I obviously want to create totally original games that are fun to play, I needed to assess my skills to figure out what my options were.

For some reason my Microsoft Solitaire game broke and something clicked and I thought, I could write a solitaire game from scratch. What I liked about the project is that it is challenging to code but pretty well-defined gameplay. So I wasn’t going to fall victim of scope creep.

Anyway, my game is pretty much done, I just have to polish up a few things and then I’ll be ready for the 1.0 release.

Please download and play and let me know what you think. And if you are a developer, I invite you to take a look at my source code :)

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!
