New health bars!

I’ve always had an interest in UI design. Seeing new interface elements in the games and apps I use is always somewhat thrilling for me. That’s probably a sign I’m a genuine computer geek, right?

Well anyway, here’s a glimpse at my latest feat - shiny new health bars!

What’s so special about these? Well, like the previous ones, they’ve got a nice angled shape, and a cool shatter animation when their owner dies. Unlike the old ones, they’ve got clear separators (so you can easily tell exactly how much HP you’ve lost), and of course they’re much shinier. Also, the color scheme changes to match your current character:

As a reminder, here’s what the old ones looked like, in all their minimalist glory:

Up next on my to-do list: Heck, I dunno. Maybe some more actual level design I guess?

Scenic subterranean lake ambiance.

It seems so peaceful... for now.

Chapter 4 (K) is DONE! And about time too - that's my longest level to date.

With that, Phase 3 (of 3) Milestone 2 (of 4) is now done! The end of this 7+ year project is finally nearing completion, and I can't wait to share it with you all.

Behold, your reward for beating boss rush - this sick-as-heck 3D cutscene I threw together over the weekend!

Yeah, I know the game is mostly 2D, but I really felt like going way over the top with this game mode. I hope it paid off.

I got a little creative block working on the lake level, so I skipped ahead for a bit.

This is the Boss Rush arena event! You fight many/all bosses back-to-back here.

I decided to go crazy with 3D effects here, since it happens in a virtual reality room.

I updated the character select screen again!

I ditched the blurred overlay background for a stylish color-changing gradient, and added a spotlight to justify the players' shadows.

I also combined player & difficulty onto 1 screen for efficiency.

Sure has been a while since I posted something new, huh? Well, that's because I've been working on something big (that, and bugfixing).

Here's a little preview of that something!

Some new background elements in Chapter 4 (N). The sky's a little less barren now that there are more floating rocks off in the background.

These also use 3D depth for accurate scaling, parallax scrolling, and distance fog.

Oodles of options!

Accessibility aids aplenty!

I added some more settings lately to toggle distorted graphics, fine-tune the audio mixing, and other stuff. Hopefully this should make the game accessible to more kinds of players.

More underwater friends :)
