Hello,
I just wanted to touch base on here and update you with recent news on the development of The Norwood Suite.
It’s coming along! In fact, it’ll be shown at GDC in February, in addition to the talk I’m giving there about creative solutions to Narrative Design. Feel free to follow my twitter handle to stay informed of more moment-to-moment updates.
Also, some cool new profiles came out on me this past holiday season:
If we’re gonna break it down, I’m currently polishing the main ‘bulk’ of the game in preparation for GDC. I’d estimate I’ve added 200% more content than what I had shown at Fantastic Arcade last fall, and this content is in alignment with the full vision of what I committed to during the incubator last summer. I was always a bit reluctant whenever I showed my game last year because I knew the stuff I really wanted to express was still in my head, even as I was hashing out basic gameplay functionality alongside broader creative strokes. But props to the NYU Incubator for keeping me on task. Still, all the while during my showing of the game, I’d think: wait till you see what I really have in store… haha.
Well, now, players are finally going to get to see the vision as intended, and as the Spring unfolds and I start to add more music, its vision will cohere to completion.
All the while, there’s gonna be a lot of local playtesting to ensure that the game is legible and doesn’t jank out. I’m considering opening it up to playtesting outside of my local crew, but I’ll cross that bridge when I’m ready. That said, I have no plans to draw out the process. Spring 2017 is still the window I’d set for myself for release. It’s going to take a lot of work, but if development bleeds into the summer, it’ll only be to everyone’s benefit. Meanwhile, enjoy a few new screens and Gifs.
Also, since Off-Peak’s release on Steam last October and it’s exposure there increased my audience exponentially. Thanks Steam! I probably won’t upload the Steam build to Jolt until I do a more concerted refresh of the game overall. Priorities.
I’ll continue to upload more screens, new music cues, and some GIFs as the year unfolds.
Til next time,
-cosmo d
