Bringing Your Drawings to Life
Hey, people. So, I'm really excited to talk to you about what I've done since the last log. Really, really, really excited. Okay, maybe not that excited, but a reasonable amount of excitement would be the proper amount I am trying to relay.
I have been doing a lot of development on the Drawing Area in Ehh's house and I think it's safe to say that it's completely done now. By that I mean it's functionality is where I want it to be and changing what Ehh draws each day would be very easy to do. So let's get into it!
But First...
I'd like to give shout-outs to @AlphaWolf224 and @HAndLol for following my game. You guys are my first two followers and it makes me happy to have people following my game. I hope you like the progress I'm making and I hope you two stick around to see the game become more of a game. I really appreciate the support.
The Drawing Area
As I have not-so-subtly hinted, I have made tremendous progress on the Drawing Area in Ehh's house. Take a look:
I really wanted to capture the feeling of creating a piece of artwork with the Drawing Area segments of the game. You will be able to see each drawing being created start to finish. Obviously, I sped up the process so it only lasts about 30 seconds before it is finished. Otherwise, this segment of the game would be anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes and I don't think any game wants to have that long of a cutscene (unless you happen to be Metal Gear Solid, apparently).
While Ehh is drawing, you'll also get to read some of his inner monologue about the drawing he is making. Usually the monologue will be backstory or other important details to the picture. The monologue is done in such a way so it lasts just as long as making the picture.
Finally, when Ehh is all finished a textbox will appear giving some final comments about the completed picture and how Ehh feels about it overall:
If you're wondering about the gif above, I trimmed it so it wouldn't spoil the complete picture. I want to keep some surprises.
One other thing about the Drawing Area: you can only draw once a day. I've made it this way so you don't accidentally replay the same cutscene if you've already seen it once. Here's an example of trying to draw again:
There may be exceptions where you can draw more than once a day, but it would be entirely different drawings for each time you draw in those circumstances.
On a final note, you may have noticed that the drawing area looks like this now:
That's because it's now a drawing tablet instead of a piece of paper and a pencil. I would have liked to keep it the old way, but it just works better as a tablet when it comes to the actual cutscene.
Some Other Things You May Have Noticed
Specifically, this little plant that happens to be a little away from the fridge:
This is Dakota.
Dakota
Dakota is a plant that is integral to the game. Right now, all that happens when you interact with Dakota is this:
Not much, but that'll hopefully be different by the next Pig Log. Dakota is what will tell you if you've completed that day's puzzle. When you complete a puzzle a little cutscene will play where Dakota's little yellow flower will glow for a second accompanied by some sort of sound.
You will then go and interact with Dakota, a little scene will play out and you will get a Golden Item. You always get a Golden Item when you finish a puzzle, if I haven't made that clear already. There are other Golden Items you get from completing separate non-puzzle tasks as well.
In Conclusion...
I'm pretty close to finishing the first Day of the game. Once I have done that (and spruced up the room a little more if I'm feeling like it), I will begin working on the first Dream portion of the game. I just wanted to make it clear that the Dream portions aren't exactly a dream in the way you and I may think of them. So yeah, look forward to that.
Thanks for reading and for the support,
Joshua
