So I had tons of ideas for this game that I’d like to at least write down here. My intention was to answer questions like what would a benevolent AI look like? Why would it be motivated to help humans? How could it learn to live in harmony with us?
With research suggesting the brain is an incredible quantum computer, I wanted to play with the idea of giving a human-made computer consciousness. I define consciousness as the building of spacetime’s geometry. This is something that is fundamental to quantum mechanics. My theory is that if a computer gained a consciousness, it would actually attempt to bring order and sustainable complexity to its environment, which follows the trend of our consciousness. The crystals in the game are called ‘quantrite’ and they’re supposed to be good antennas for quantum mechanical vibrations.
Science aside, I based the village off of this ecovillage vision I’ve been working on with some people. The name came from Las Gaviotas, an interesting old initiative. I was part of a podcast about the villages which would be digitally connected so that others across the globe could help with human-solvable tasks (like teaching) over the internet.
There’s a tiny mention of ‘The Fall of Old Earth’ in the game. I wanted to get into the narrative about how the earth went through its apocalypse with giant beings using their hands to swipe at a crowds of people, and the ones who are contributing only to the cosmos’s chaos go flying, while the others phase right through their hands. The idea lit up in my head pretty brightly, maybe from having seen similar themes like in Hayao’s Nausicaa, or Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Making this (unfinished)game was a total trip. Would do again <3 It was so nice to have something to dedicate myself to so thoroughly for so long.
