POPGOES Arcade: Fighting Chance FAQ
If all goes well, Fighting Chance will release in less than a day. I'm here to answer your questions.
Q: What is Fighting Chance?
A: Fighting Chance is a major update to POPGOES Arcade, designed to improve it in a ton of ways.
Q: How much is it?
A: The update is completely free. POPGOES Arcade is $4.99 by default, but it will be $3.74 for two weeks, when the update drops.
Q: When is it out?
A: We are not entirely sure on a specific time yet as we're still fixing some minor things, but we plan to launch it tomorrow (June 26th), around 3pm-5pm EST / 8pm-10pm BST. It should also release simultaneously (or, we'll try anyway) with a launch trailer on YouTube.
Q: Is this a new chapter, like The Machinist?
A: No, there is no additional campaign, nor can your progression go over the current 200%. The content added enhances BOTH of the current chapters. It's sort of like a remaster/re-release of the game.
Q: What kind of content is added?
A: Lots of little things, like a new bonus currency in Holly's shop, the ability to escape battles from the start of the game, and a total rework of the "Shortcut" ability. But most importantly, we have added our version of The Puppet who also comes with "Battle Gifts", a selection of random modifiers that make fights with normal enemies 10x more exciting and engaging. It's so good.
Q: What are Battle Gifts?
A: Once you unlock them (very early on), Battle Gifts will start spawning in some of the battles you encounter. If you choose to open the gift, you'll be given either special modifier or status effect. Some are good, some are bad, and some are something in between. Good effects will often speed up the battle or make it easier in some way, and bad ones will give you a bonus money reward for overcoming their challenges.
Q: Why was this made?
A: We were given one last opportunity to improve the game's shortcomings before committing to the rather daunting port process. Meaning, we wanted to make the game perfect before it's sent off for mobile/console releases.
Q: Are there more achievements?
A: Yes! There are ten more achievements, 5 for each chapter. If you already have 40/40 achievements, you're gonna need to replay the game to get to the new 50/50. Sorry. But also, not sorry at all - you're gonna love it! Achievements are also now triggered, notified, and displayed in a menu in the game itself. Unfortunately these can not read FROM Steam (though some will automatically unlock based on your save data), so you may need to re-experience some achievements if you want to max out this menu as well.
Q: Will the game get more updates?
A: The game will continue to get minor patches to fix the issues we find. It's inevitable, for a few days at least. But in terms of actual content updates... no, we are done! Just like how the New and Improved update closed the book on myPOPGOES, Fighting Chance will be the finale to POPGOES Arcade.
Q: Is there anything in Fighting Chance that teases POPGOES Evergreen?
A: POPGOES Arcade has lots of teasers and connections to POPGOES Evergreen, but Fighting Chance does not add any to the game. This update is intended to improve the gameplay experience first and foremost, to make Arcade stand on its own as much as possible. If you are excited about Evergreen but you haven't played PA before, now is a perfect time to see what you've missed.
Q: Will the game be translated?
A: Unfortunately not. The visual style of POPGOES Arcade makes it effectively impossible to translate elements to almost any language. myPOPGOES was translated to Spanish, but that is probably the only official alt language I will implement in a POPGOES title. It's just too tricky. Thankfully, most of POPGOES Arcade is not time-sensitive, which means you can quite safely learn what dialogue and UI elements are saying with Google Lens, or something like that. Sorry we can't give more than this.
