POPGOES Evergreen:

Okay, now I gotta justify having such an amazing pin collection up for sale... Though, I guess all of those characters already appear in a game that we DID already release... That's enough justification actually. Might as well cancel Evergreen.

First thing I want to recap is that earlier this week I revealed our accurate Toy Bonnie model for the first time:

This model was made by Alexis, and this particular render was done by Odium. We have some other cool renders of Toy Bonnie but I think I'll wait a while before showing those off.

Indeed this model is the base for a few things in Evergreen. Namely Blackrabbit, the Toy Bonnie mask that appears in POPGOES Arcade, and of course... False Bonnie. Spooky. And as you can see Alexis did an incredible job with this model, and everything else that he has worked on recently.

Speaking of Alexis - he has continued working on some "classic" characters, which I won't divulge into for spoiler reasons, but work IS being done on that front. It's great. I mean, you guys know how super meticulous this guy is with the accuracy models, and how spooky the Falses are. So just imagine what else is cooking.

Emil has been working tirelessly on the reflection shader for Evergreen. Due to the fact that Evergreen's cameras are distorted in a panorama effect in Blender, and that the entire game moves through a custom perspective shader (for the 360 degree turning), the reflection shader from POPGOES Arcade is not necessarily compatible with Evergreen's setup. That doesn't mean it's IMPOSSIBLE, but it does mean we've had to experiment a lot to get it working right.

And, I think, it's done. We will need to also work on the Simon Says tray moving up and down, the buttons themselves working separately from the reflections, etc. But for now you get this!

In practice this doesn't look very impressive I guess, but consider that the reflection of the Server Room on the tray below the monitor is done in real-time, in Clickteam. And then, on top of that, the ENTIRE image is scrolling (in super dramatic slow-mo) through a perspective distortion shader, AND motion blur. And, somehow, it works.

The input for this is literally just two images, ignoring the UI: The panorama of the dining room, and an overlay for the Server Room. Everything else is programmed in Clickteam. But I think it looks pretty indistinguishable from a (very good looking) 3D game.

The only downside of this setup is that the reflection is a bit blurry and has a kind of "noise" effect, looks a bit like carbon fiber in places:

But ultimately, while you're scrolling through cameras (with a bit of static, I imagine), the real-time reflection in your peripheral view will be immersive enough without the blurriness being distracting. I think so anyway. I'm very impressed with it, big thanks to Emil for being a genius as always. This week we'll see if we can get the tray animation sorted.

Ellie also finished the artwork required for the final trading card booster pack. Very nice, can't show it, but it's good to tick it off, as always.

Last thing I want to show off is from Garrett, as we continue to work on game-ready renders for Emil to use. I've already described Saffron's new mechanic in a previous devlog, but the short of it is that she will try to break out of the Photo Room so that she can steal and keep hold of your phone. Sara does the same thing but by crawling through the vents (same as POPGOES 2016).

So we need a render of Saffron next to the player with their phone. But we have 50 phones, so her pose needs to not actually show a physical phone model. How do we imply she's even holding a phone then?! Well, it'll just kinda glow from her hands onto her body. Best we can do!

But I mean, if Saffron is going to be right next to the player when she does this, then surely that's going to look kind of creepy? And the answer to this, at least in my opinion, is a massive yes:

Ignore the total lack of car park/sky behind her. But yeah, I mean, that's kinda disturbing right?

She's technically kneeling here so that she can reach the player's eye level. She will be an overlay image, with a dimmed version as well for when the lights in the room go out. Thankfully I think at her position she is not affected by the light coming from the window. So it should be fairly straightforward to program this.

I also like the idea that when she or Blake are right next to the player like this, their eyes may flick left and right, as if they are staring between the player's two eyes. Very subtle but it could add a LOT to the creepiness, especially considering they will be otherwise completely motionless. Thoughts on this?

And just for fun, here's a scrapped version of this setup where Saffron is standing upright, but from further away:

We'll continue working on this and I'll give updates as long as they don't feel too spoilery. This mechanic in particular isn't that interesting (compared to Blake's or Stones) so I don't think it's a big deal showing this off. Hope you like how it looks!


myPOPGOES:

Progress has continued on myPOPGOES' premium expansion. I want to confirm here that we are DONE with the free version, and all updates will be reserved for the inevitable paid release.

Nothing here is final, but I'll give you some sneak peeks at new things:

A new menu featuring the actual logo of the game. This may end up being redesigned again using some new fonts and/or layout.

Another sticker made by Sian. This one is of Origami Cat from the Five Nights at Candy's series. If it wasn't obvious, this sticker, as well as pretty much ALL of the stickers in myPOPGOES, is not canon and it has no relevance to the story of the CPU. Looks cool though.

Some mockups for a burger sprite, which would replace the pizza sprite when using the Candy's Burgers and Fries unlockable toy. Which one do you prefer? Bear in mind the "white" and "grey" are not actually white and grey. They are transparent or semi-transparent black.

I am also writing up some brand new Bonnie Glade lore which will be revealed through unlockable diary entries. Some big and small reveals here! What kind of stuff do you want to know about Bonnie and her life at this point in her life?

More has happened behind the scenes. NeeTroo has completely finished the models for the Popgoes and Candy toy replacements. I was going to also do a Fredbear's Diner one but that might be kind of redundant honestly. I dunno how we'd spice up the interior. I'll scrap that I think.

The next thing we have to work on (NeeTroo and I) are some "character cartridges" which are going to be small plastic extensions that plug into the right side of the myPOPGOES toy. These will represent the unlockable characters (Blake, Stone, Manora, etc). This is kind of like our version of the car accessory you could get for the original Pixel Chix. But Fritz didn't manufacture these for sale in shops, so I imagine they'll look kind of makeshift with shitty labels on them rather than actual decals of the characters. Not sure yet!


Merch:

On top of the Youtooz Pins, some other things have happened in the world of merch.

Firstly, I received my first update on the Youtooz sitting Popgoes plushie and it's kind of adorable. It's the very first phase, so there are some things to change. Youtooz made a document of their feedback for the manufacturer, and thankfully it's EXACTLY what I was going to suggest anyway. You've seen the concept art for the plushie already, but I think in person it's going to be unbeatably cute. I actually imagine it to be more like a Baby Popgoes or something.

Secondly, Hex Plushies are reportedly shipping NOW. I think! I have asked Dawko to confirm this (no response from Warren James just yet) but the web pages DO say that they will ship on the week of April 20th which was yesterday. Let me know if you end up receiving a plushie this week!

Wave A Plushie Bundle (Popgoes & Candy)

Unlike most Youtooz products, Hex plushies never really "run out" but they do go out of stock sometimes. They are sold in batches, basically. At the moment, the Wave A bundle is about 61% close to going out of stock, and standalone Popgoeses are around 71% there. For Popgoes to go out of stock would be an AMAZING sign for the Fanverse, and definitely incentivise making more characters from the POPGOES series! And of course if they go out of stock, I'm almost certain they'll come back (maybe after a pause).


Other:

I am working with Game Jolt and Emil on a fanart competition that should happen around mid-May. This will be hosted exclusively on Game Jolt (possibly through a Quest or a hashtag) and involve real, physical FNAF prizes!

I will share more information as it's confirmed, but I thought I'd tease it a bit. I want to also thank everyone for making and sharing their POPGOES fanart on Twitter - my list of fanart showcase entries is looking a little healthier now!
