Port Valley

#review

Now all I could get my hands on to review was a demo, and the first thing I saw was this disclaimer

Hahaha, hey don't worry guys, I always keep it in mind when I review from a demo that it only shows half the fun.

Port Valley is a point-and-click adventure, which at first sight looks like it was inspired by the style in which LucasArts creats adventure games.

You can click stuff in order to to stuff and even the mouse-pointer looks LucasArts style. When you move the mouse all the way up, you can see a small menu of the actions you can take.

They are less than the actual menus in the old LucasArts games have, but actually I think that's only for the better as those old menus were stacked with too many useless items anyway, and the most needed ones are there. You can use the right mouse button in order to perform the most likely action. The inventory beside it looks small, but it does the job. Keeping the interface as simplistic as possible is always very important, and I think this game has covered that up nice.

When it comes to the story, it's clear the game creators had humor in mind, I mean, why else would you want to break the 4th wall:

Now I must say that halfway the game I found myself a bit lost, which was basically once the game suddenly switched to this person.

However, the demo did give me some good insights of what I should expect from the actual game, and what I must say is that the art style really fits the game genre. I love pixel art, and if you ask me, it's actually what you need for a game like this. The humor is set up in a way that you'll either love or hate, and with love I mean that you'll really be needed to clean your pants every two minutes due to wetting your pants of laughing, and with hate I really man loathe with passion. Breaking the 4th wall on multiple occasions is just one of the many ways the humor is brought to you, and they even dared to parody my personal favorite genre, the turn-based jRPG, but hey, they did a good job doing so. The interface is easy to understand. Also, the game does support the English and Spanish languages, and turning the game to another language not only change the scenario text and system text will even change the text on the graphic images, like the "BIG SALE" in the shot above:

This shows how much work they put into getting the details in order. The chosen music appears to be well chosen for the job. So all in all, this shows like something that will undoubtedly be great.

One thing though... did I by accident discover something I wasn't supposed to see?
