Howdy!
Now that the competition is over, I thought I would upload a new version of Love & Devour. So many changes!
Things we’ve done:
The biggest change is probably the addition of hearts and bombs. Now there are three possibilities every time an egg hatches: a new little crocodile, a heart, or a bomb! Touch the hearts with your moth to regain some health. Bombs will hurt you, so watch yourself! They also kill crocs, so if things are getting a little crazy, maybe you can thin out the population a little. Just don’t let all of them get sploded…
I was wrong! The biggest change is our new username. For our collaborations, Austin and I have decided to use the name Little Brother. Sorry for any confusion! We just really liked this name and wanted to use it as soon as possible.
New typeface!
Original music. We tossed the public domain recording and switched to a tango that I wrote a while ago. There’s probably some polishing to be done, but I think it fits pretty well. Which leads us to…
Dancy fruit! I synced the fruit and the bombs up to the tempo of the music, so now things are really passionate and dramatic.
We also changed a few sound effects and added some new ones.
If you played the jam version, you might notice that your high score has disappeared. Terribly sorry! I changed the points system, so it’s much more difficult (and special) to reach 1,000,000. This required me to clear the board and pave the way for some new high scores. It’s anybody’s game now!
Things we plan to do:
I’m currently working on touch controls. For now, it’s mouse only. But we’ve been talking about a mobile version, and our playtesting has made us feel that it’s definitely possible. Weee!
UI stuff. We’re working on a splash screen and some transitional menus. The core game is functional, but it could really use some polish.
You’ll probably notice that when the bomb explodes, it’s just a big red collision box. nervous chuckle Don’t worry, that will be a proper explosion soon! We also have a couple small animations to round out.
So there you have it. Thanks so much for playing, everyone! This game has been so much fun to work on, and we would love to hear any thoughts you have. Go get some POINTS!
