Pre-Alpha 1.14 update uploaded; Huge update coming soon.

This update consists of mostly small tweaks and changes, with only a tiny bit of new playable content. However, the next level HAS been added to the game. It’s still under construction, but in the next update it will be playable!

As should be expected, I’ve changed my workflow a bit working on the next level, so it will vary slightly from the first one. Most notably, in scale. It’s more than 4x the total size of the first level. However, it will also feature much richer audio, textual information, and puzzles. I’m excited to work on it and get it finished so that I can get feedback. I will also periodically make changes to the first level, sort of backporting some of my new techniques to it.

Here’s the changelog:

Pre-Alpha 1.14

ADDITIONS

-The church model is now in place. The level itself is not playable, but the building is explorable. (No furniture or props yet)
-Added a very slight amount of extra props and details to the house.
-Because of an easier way to inject text into the game world, there is now more textual information on previously blank surfaces.
-Audio. Rather than relying on realistic sources of audio, I have expanded the audio portion of the game to match the visual portion

in terms of symbolism. This means a wider variety of ambiance, as well as a greater opportunity to unsettle the player. There’s much

more background audio in this version.
-Some story information added.

CHANGES

-Made the duration with which text appears onscreen when reading the diary slightly longer, because it closed before many people had a

chance to read it all.
-Fixed a window that wasn’t properly aligned.
-Fixed a slight issue that allowed you to walk through the lamp post.
-Fixed grass clipping through the walls.
-Fixed some minor typos.
-Recolored the memento shards white, and fixed a shadow left under them.
-Switched the lighter’s shader to a slightly cheaper vertex based on for a minor performance increase.
-Many of the textures are now different. Some of them have more total detail, some of them have lesser total detail, and a lot of them

have changed completely. The total amount of VRAM being used by textures is the same, but variety and overall quality is much higher.
-Changed the appearance of “memento fragments” to be white. Also fixed an issue that caused them to leave shadows when
they shouldn’t.
-Several tiny changes and fixes are undcomented.
-Made the vignette effect slightly stronger.

REMOVALS

-The “Initiate: Forgotten” text that was used to test the textbox has been removed.
-The enemy prototypes have been disabled. They will be back once there are appropriate graphics and the player has proper reason to avoid them.
